Hi, brains trust, hoping someone can give me some advice on a RAE distributor I bought. It has no marks to indicate where the rotor button should be facing for the number 1 piston.   I have put it on and lined it up as best as I can to the same position as the old distributor. Is this the correct way of doing it as there a lot of different ideas on the web on where the rotor button should be facing. Does it make any difference because as it is in situ is the only way it will fit. Am I correct in thinking that once this is established the rest of the leads go in clockwise order and following the firing order of 1,2,7,8,4,5,6,3. I have attached pics of the old one and the new one which I have put on.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Button will only go on to shaft in one spot. You the line that up so that the distributor doesnt foul on anything and you can adjust the distributor to get initial timing correct. Leads then follow in sequence from number 1 as you have described. You should be able to put the tip of the rotor button pretty much wherever you want to suit your current dizzy lead lengths.
