Somewhere along the line I have found these little brackets that I assume are to restrict the gear box rubber mount from flexing through torque.

I have searched all my manuals, parts books and also G@@GLED but cant even find a pic of how they are fitted.

Any idea? Pics from a manual would be good if you have one?

I've always seen them as per the second photo, i.e. the strap that runs though is immediately under the bolt head

Never seen those extra brackets in any LC LJ Torana parts books, service manuals, Dealer Service Letters or on any cars Rob.

Just the transmission rear mount and the safety strap through the mount.

Looks familiar from when I installed the GMH M15 in my ute. There were also two individual tabs to limit shear travel. Factory from HT, I thought, so may have been behind a V8.

They don't exist in HT to HG parts books. Both exist in the images in the 1971 HQ parts book but not in the text. They are called:

ARRESTOR - rear side mounting (the black bits in Rob's photos).

ARRESTOR - rear mounting (the strap).

In later parts books (late HQ onwards) they appear in the text in section 4.081 for Aussie boxes and Trimatic:

2819856 (rear mounting) quantity 1.

2819855 (rear side mounting) quantity 2.

Rob, the images show it the way you have it in the second image. But I don't reckon you use them on low power and/or low weight applications like a Torana and they are not shown in any of the LC-LX parts books in images or in text. My guess is they were introduced due to the cab-chassis. They are shown in the CF Bedford Parts book too.

Here's one we took out/ replaced from our LJ last year.
I recall swapping that plate from old to new. You can see the witness marks on the old one, where it was sandwiched under the bolt head. ( i e. pic shows old one, without the extra bit fitted).

That plate in the Rares image and the witness marks is 2819856. They all have it. Its 2819955 that Rob is asking about, the shiny black ones in his photos.

Thank you for all your comments.

The bit that concerns me though, if assembled like pic 2, then the original strap is 3mm further away from what it was to retain?

If assembled like pic 1, then once the weight is on it, those retainers might rattle on the crossmember.

I'll just chuck em in the bin.  :fool:

The retainer strap is there to prevent the mount from completely separating in the case of a total failure.
