I got Packard to engineer a GVM upgrade on my Landcruiser, and this involved building a four inch wider rear diff housing, which was fine, but the Dana axles they installed were standard length. This meant that there was only 8mm of spline engaged into the Harrop centre.  This was a week before an 8 week trip to the NT.  To the credit of both Dana and Harrop, it made it to an isolated spot between Kununurra and Katherine (about 3,500 kays) before it let go.

Anybody would be able to feel the splines engage when assembling a diff. Surely, when it only went in 8 mills they would have picked up that something wasn't right.   The wife will never let me forget that "holiday"!

When I contacted Packard they didn't give two craps. I never received an apology from any of them, and they put the blame on the axle supplier.  What a cop out.

Nope. Buy a licenced car from interstate, and you have to get it over the pits when you get it home.  Engineered in a different state? Too bad. Get it done again.

You can in NSW if the interstate Engineer is accredited for NSW. I looked at buying a stretched and dual cab converted 100 Series before I bought my Ram. It was fully Engineered in Victoria including the Supercharger on the 100 Series V8. But the Engineer wasn't a NSW signatory thus it would ave been a nightmare to register here in NSW.

Holy shit - this thing is going to be insane. I love the look of the custom chassis, you should be able to get this thing sitting REALLY low.

Keep us posted on the progress with lots of photos!

Cheers, Matt

Yeah right. Thats not an ideal situation at all. Like you say, when sliding the axles in they should have noticed the splines only just engaging. Did they atleast cover the costs of new axles/labour?

They will only be doing the engineering side of things for my build. Have been ok to deal with thus far

Its going to be a pretty cool street car thats for sure. Shame most of the chromoly bars through the car will be hidden but it will definitely be low!

Apologies for the lack of updates lads. Being christmas and new years break, shop was shut for a good earned break. However i did find myself over at my first summernats this year and the fire is lit! I need to have a car there!! Since then the tubs have now been finished off and they look mint. I did mention a few posts back about the 1/4 inch rod being welded inside the outer lip so we could completely box the tubs in, bit hard to tell but tubs are fully separate from the rear 1/4s

Next up we ummed and ahhed about changing the gearbox mount. Originally i wasnt going to. I just planned on pulling out motor/box to do any repairs to clutch/rear main etc, but being a mechanic myself i would of been cursing myself big time once the time actually come to do that clutch change or rear main leak. 3rd pic shows how it was before. The mount didnt really fit too well to start with so we cut the lot out. Careful thought went into how we were going to make it strong enough without getting in the way of the exhaust. Plates were made in 2 sections that picked up on the bolt holes (2nd pic) then installed and welded in. Then a mid plate for strength was welded in and linished. (6th pic), with the last pic being the finished deal. We used a poly urethane th400 mount as they are the same bolt pattern for the t56, just look abit nicer.7aa4798ec24d68bfd7a0bcbbabeee66c.jpg92c149fa9bd249f5fc98b9c5b3d30085.jpg42e254b3b4e6afddba49f5ded14f5840.jpg4561f181010f2b92f473e72ca888bdb3.jpg14a31cc4775c371af7ba36d367bf1c3e.jpg3f040c14a812675ef7d5e8dceb94229f.jpg6d44b90fe6b680c611a32c7a54caf5ea.jpg4e9aed3ee2d40fe7b892d3369ff98523.jpg

Time for an update i reckon while sitting at the airport living the fifo dream haha had a good 5 months off work so cant complain

So tubs are fully finished now, with the infill panels completed from the top of the tub to the original cut out. I can almost get original rear trims in so havent lost alot of room. Seat wise i may have but we will work that out later

Had to repair above the right hand tub, had 2 holes like something had been torn out. Was thinking maybe it had the tub braces from factory but not too surea84c20f60329e992764a88c94eec042e.jpg5dfebc5d5f4725d041bc4c7996648feb.jpgbf69fb010bdbdc0f0d0be68b98eae833.jpg8410ff54ea53e7523c924926c9318e3e.jpg2b160d18e02232fe0b43b562291a0df3.jpga3c3be6540ebb3ae3055a0e5be95ad1e.jpg6a33315664285aedae7acf6983e2b56e.jpg

Have started getting the electrical side of the car together, just doing bits at home and wrapping them back up ready for install time. Have bought some repo plastic indicator housings. My original orange ones were warped pretty bad. The repo ones seem fine and seal well. Just had to slightly mod the housing by filing down one of the tabs where the original globe holder mounts. Am using the muscle car led lights, used these in my hq build and they work well.42a8f496bde4eb0f005e36bb131c15e5.jpge3ffd0d1a7201c5f4a8c51f9014e4e28.jpg8eeffed0df54f3a8e4aac6889c7c0ea0.jpg3fb09dc89b599334e07740681bd837ac.jpg

Have also used one of heaths gauge kits and they are mint! Super stoked with how it turned out. Only dummy fitted in that pic but you get the idea. Opted for the 10k tacho and 260kmh speedo1625343e11ba0ee56b69d4af1b32ce0c.jpg

Do those indicators still ground through the mounting screw like the originals?

Yeah mate they do. The LED board plugs into the original style globe holder also

Thought we were overdue for an update. Fair amount of progress since the last one.

Diff centre has been welded together and test fitted to work out 4 link arm length. Anti roll bar has been tacked in. Originally i had bought an enemies racing anti roll kit, then changed over to a mood motorsports kit due to mounting flange style. Coilover mounts have been fabricated to the bottom side of the chassis rails. Wishbone locator fabricated on the top side of the diff to assist with exhaust clearance.

Tin work for the rear underside of the car has also been finished off with some neat beadrolling.

Car is almost back to a rolling shell now. 7916a5cb9588e1c9ae7e0a5ff0f3ea16.jpg703e5a4251943096e476e28e8eacf572.jpgc156d5743c129e5454099944638f18bb.jpg3b56b8ca6c79e3af832173c32a99039f.jpgfca21b5d07842782338461bb3e47fb77.jpg0dda77404d9d1597c4e33f8e78cb935e.jpgd5046711c7959332dd8b7bb032716679.jpg
