With LX front indicators mounting holes, do I need bare metal where the speed nut slides onto the nose cone? I would think so, given the indicators earth here, but before I go sanding fresh paint, I thought I'd ask...

Merry Xmas all.

It would certainly help. The earth strap is where the mounting screw is.

Yeah great - I've never seen one std but can't see it earthing properly unless I do bare metal it. Hate sanding fresh paint, too... ha ha. Thanks Brad.

Only needs to be a small amount for that earth strap.

The screw thread will cut an earth.

Thanks Statler - but on my car (pictured) the hole is wider than the screw and I am using speed nuts to attach it. So I answered ny own question. 😂

From memory they have a speed clip/nut from factory.

Yes, just checked the manual and they do. There is no reference to bare metal that I can see, which is what confused me. Anyway, I'll test with a meter first, then go from there.

It needs some bare steel somewhere to work. Could prob do the backside back to bare. As the speed clip will slip over it.

I ran an extra earth wire through the grommet so I didn't have to rely on earthing through new paint.
Was only a minor pain to do

If you're not a rivet counter this is the way to go.

Currently working through re-wiring the hatch and trying to add earth wiring where I can.

Ah, nice fellas. Defo not a rivet counter, I just want it to work well! And not add rust potential... Thanks!

My indicators look very similar with the extra earth wire.
Also ran extra earth wire to the boot and have a common earth just to be sure
