Just wondering if anyone can tell me if i have the components for an LH/LX prop valve in the correct order, and if anything is missing. I tried to find a reference on this forum or online, but the closest i could find was a HQ/HX one which has an additional very fine spring at end of smaller plunger and a white plastic cap on LHS of same. I had to use air to remove components so hope havn't lost them when pulling everything apart. Thank you and early happy new year to everyone, Paul. (if anything is missing, where can i source spare parts if possible?, I will order a rebuild kit but it only contains seals)

Further to my last post, is there any reason a LH/LX prop valve wont work with an LC/LJ brake system (vac/master/lines). Can i replace prop valve with an aftermarket generic type like photo attached. I don't want to start another thread about prop valves as i realise there are already numerous and varied ones on this topic, but i am having issues with rear brakes on my LC/LJ (disc/drum setup) Rear brakes bleed well, and wheel cylinders push shoes out but when you apply brake pedal, rear brakes spin freely. (handbrake works fine). The image above is from a spare LH/LX which had a stripped bottom thread, so replaced with a second hand one (should have pulled about and re-coed in hindsight as could be faulty/gummed up/not assembled correctly). Just wanted to know how they work to see if warning light switch has  dropped into plunger mechanism on one in car. I have an LC/LJ master cylinder which was new, all new brake lines. Thanks Paul.   (blistering paint on master is spillage from bleeding system numerous times, will touch up when sort this issue out)

Not all props are created equal

The LH and early LX one has a single pin switch

The laters have the brown twin pin as per your pic

However... the bodies are cast different and only the right switch will work in the right valve body

Theres also a number stamped on the side of the valve which denotes the crack pressure

This is determined by the length of the spring inside

Longer spring.. larger crack pressure

LC-J used a switch block with single pin switch... not a prop valve

Proportioning was done by using the correct rear wheel cyl diameter and shoe depending on disc or drum front

If you fit the LH one as example... you may reduce the rear brakes off where they are not working hard enough.

Dattoman, thanks for that. I appreciate your knowledge and advice. I was going to edit my post but it is locked for some reason. I tested rear brakes with engine running, (vacuum assisted) and rear brakes lock solid, but brakes are still pretty ordinary on the road. Do you think aftermarket distribution block (DB) from eagle spares will work?, as not relying on CP like LH/LX one does. (although don't think there's has a brake fail switch port) I will need to fit a new brake line running from DP all the way back to diff as existing one too short with LC/LJ style block. Thanks again and happy new year to you!   :)

Sure it would work

No idea what the crack pressure would be

But that only matters in an emergency situation

Why do you want a valve ?

I've not found one yet... but the ideal would be an adjustable valve... with a proper switch (not a brake light switch)

Hey Neil, i might KISS and source a good second hand LC/LJ brake distribution block. Aeroflow sell a distribution block/prop valve with adjustable front/rear bias, and brake warning light switch, but i don't want to overcomplicate things. Thanks for your help, Paul

Where did you get the braided lines between the master cylinder and proportioning valve Paul?

Laurie, was done by a guy here in melbourne who does them on site for you. I am away from home for three days but have his card in my garage somewhere so will find it when i get home for you, that was a few years ago now so i will also check he still does them. If you arn't in melbourne he might be able to send in post. Paul
