I'm helping a mate with a Holden 383 build for a drag & drive setup, he has a set of L34 type heads that are currently on a running engine that he wants to use.

Does anyone have flow figures for the L34 type heads? I haven't been able to find anything online at this stage.

Early iron heads with a lot of work done to them can do about 440hp which is not gonna do a 383 any justice.

Starting with VN type heads is a big step up.

Early style to do a 383 justice would be dash 3 alum heads.

In Torana Tough Norm published curves from 308 development, page 187. Shows what Redco got out of the heads hp wise, but not flow. I know it is just dyno figures but it gives you a comparison to the standard HT-HQ 308. Redco got 190hp out of the standard 308 (GMH managed 226hp on the controlled GM20 test (gross bhp), but used an "advertised" 240hp), and 482hp in F5000 trim. Standard L34 made 270hp and 320hp with the HP kit.

Thanks. I'm trying to convince him to start with a VN or later head, but he has his mind set on the old school look. He has looked at Yella Terra, but I believe that they aren't making the Dash 3 alloy heads anymore. A COME alloy head would be good, but they are like rocking horse sh!t.

There might be something you can pull out of this
And I also remember some flow figures and dyno results in the Larry O'Toole Book the Essential Holden V8 Manual, though can't remember if they were L34 specific or not
