Bit of a story on things you've been given out of nowhere- I was at home last Saturday when i get a knock at the door (thought it was bloody Jehovas Witness') opened door and see this old bloke who lives up the road from me standing there with a GMH Spare parts box. He asks me if the LJ runs a red motor i said 'yes of course' and then he offers me a brand spankers water pump that he bought new back in the day but never needed. So i said thanks and away he went thank you linesman thankyou ball boy. really took me by surprise.
Just made me think what else have people been offered just out of the blue like that, no warning just given to them and nothing in return wanted.
Cheers,
Mick

I would drop round with a couple of McDonalds pancakes and coffees on a Sat morning..and chew the fat with an obvious Old Holden Man...just a thought. He would probably like the company and conversation.(God knows he is probably the bloke that taught Ian Tate what was an engine at HDT!!..You never know)

Of course I took him up on the kind offer, and was barely able to drive away because the car was so full of gear. Boxes and boxes of stuff... Original GTS/SLR side mirror, steering wheels, never opened 308 fuel pump, several second hand 4 barrel vac sec Holley carbs with spares, adapter plates, polished kick panels, all kinds of nuts and bolts, air cleaners, brand new rear disk rotor (apparently L34 or A9X)... etc etc etc. Can't remember what else.
What a top bloke though... He was telling me about an L34 he used to own, before it got stolen and he never saw it again.... unbelievable :(

Got a phone call to clean out some rubish and an old car from an elderly couple, when i got to the job i cleaned out some bins full of garden rubish for this couple and saw the old car was a HQ panelvan.. I had a tandem trailer on the truck so i backed it up and started winchin the HQ up, after having a quick look in the back of the panelvan i saw a full set of B45 simmons with brand new Kelly charger tyres on em.. I call the old man over and say to him sir were do you want me to put the wheels from the back of the van, he sais oh no you have to take them too that was the deal im not paying if you dont take the wheels too, i go sir these wheels are worth over $2000(long time ago) and are not rubish, he sais to me oh there my sons and he left home 3 years ago and i havnt heard of him since even this car was his.. So i tell the old man that i cant take his wheels since there worth so much it would be wrong he insisted i take them.. I offerd him money for them, i even offerd to do the job for free but he insisted he payme as our deal when i quoted the job...
After the car was loaded and the simmons in the back he come over and paid me, he even gave me an extra few bucks for being honest with him..
I was one happy sukker as the wheels were to fit a commodore and i had just brought a VC SLE and they looked smick on it..

Hmm, good idea Rory never really thought of doing that, although i know he used to be the local cab driver, you know when one guy serviced the local area only, before the taxi laws changed . My Mum was telling me he always drove Holdens and actually kept driving his last taxi a bright yellow VK Commodore until about a year ago, wonder how many km's it had on the odo??Low,

I'm lucky enough to have GREAT neighbours both sides, and the elderly couple on one side absolutely love the monaro.. I try to keep it as quiet as i can when leaving/coming home especially at night and they appreciate it. They also keep an eye out for me around the house! These people are the best to have on your side!
I was given a metal fan and torana gregory's manual by the neighbour across the street just before i sold the old Beast.. Just some stuff he had lying around from when they owned one!
Goes to show that there are still good people around!

same when people cleaned out sheds or moved house lots of bits.
Boats as well too many things to remember,
but the locals could always come and get parts if they needed, usually the young lads. This all turned sour when one came to get free diff out of LJ for his LX and my set of original CD 150s that had been sitting on bench for 10 / 12 yrs went as well. I know he's got them, seen them on his car.
So no one gets bits any more unless I take them off and deliver.
