Hi All,
I am currently trying to search high and low for the factory LX under bonnet A/C components like compressor and lines, heater fan shroud, condenser, evaporator etc. Unfortunately all removed in a previous life :-(
My question is what parts if any of the HQ to WB parts are the same? I know the heater box is different but not sure about the rest.
Thanks for your help

It's all different. And V8 (and UC) are different to 6cyl LH-LX.

The compressor is the same though and you can buy these easily as used for reco or as repro.

To be honest, you are probably better off fitting a full vintage air setup, and taking the time to make it work off factory holes/bolts etc. For example, fit a non-aircon heater box/fan under the bonnet but gut it, and use it to route the 2 x heater hoses and 2 x aircon lines. You could probably use the factory locations for the heater hoses. You'll lose the glovebox, but the Vintage air unit will fit up neatly in that area once the plenum air intake and other stuff is gone. Flexi ducts will take the air up to the screen and to the original air outlets, juts adapt them to the hoses. You'll be able to fit a Vintage air controller where the standard Torana controller goes.

Factory AC dash is also different to non AC so hopefully you still have the AC dash.

Yel327 - thanks for the info, I thought as much that it would not be the same but at least now I know for sure. I'll stop looking at H series aircons haha.

V-SLR5000-P - luckily all the factory dash and vacuum controlled heater box still in place just the under bonnet components and heater fan assembly has been swapped out.

Yu might find a Holden or Statesman condenser is the same or similar, but those old things are not efficient. You are better off adapting something modern and make it look original. When I get a chance I'll have a look across my Holden/Staesman parts catalogues and the Torana ones and see what is different compressor mount wise. So I don't waste time, what is yours exactly? LH, LX, LX ADR27A, 6cyl or 4.2 or 5.0? Manual or Auto?

Yel327 that would be great and much appreciated.
It is an LX ADR27A manual 4.2.
I am hearing you regarding fitting a modern system and being more efficient. Just trying to keep it original as it is a factory fitted system.

I'll try and look over this week and see what is common with a Holden or Statesman compressor mount wise. Pretty rare to find a manual Holden or Torana with assembly plant fitted A/C.

It's been a while since I went through all this but I'm pretty sure the H series bracketry (mounting on passenger side) pushes the compressor too far over and it hits on the rails in a Torana. Cheers Ron

What do you mean by H series? HT? HQ?

Sorry. I loosely term any H* model as H series.  Realisically I was referring to the later models around HQ era.  This is one of the sort of bracketry I was looking at. Cheers Ron

Just confirming that you do realise how ugly the standard stuff is?

That may not bother you, just wanted to check, lol.

We have a 253 lx hatch with factory air and it is horrible to work on. You have to remove the evaporator box to remove the rocker cover. It works well but is a real compromise on practicality. If you really want air I would go with yel327’s suggestion.

The reason I said it is HT-HG are different to HQ-WB. And HD-HR don't have A/C.

Still haven't had time to delve into the common parts, will get to it.

Hi Mac - thanks for the info and I agree with all the comments, factory fitted doesn't look great in the engine bay and makes it less practical to work.
It's only because its factory fitted I would like to try and source the parts to return to original. Dreams are free who and knows might mange to find them.

Yel237 - thanks again for looking when you find time much appreciated.

Apart from the compressor there is nothing from a H series aircon used in Torana . See how you go but I’ve got some Torana V8 aircon bits , mine is now up and running so I doubt I’ll ever use all the spares I picked up over the years
