That's how I've always read it.
Below the bottom line = needs more, nagging issue of is oil starvation happening?
Above the upper line = oops, too much, with the nagging issue of am I aereating the oil? i.e. crank slapping oil and making bubbles?
Bearings don't like bubbles.

I’ll use the container with a 12/21 mfg date.

Hmm...never knew modern oil even had a use by date.
Might be a manufacture date?

Its the same with Synthetic oil filters, you need to store them in a cool relatively constant temperature. Like wine. This wouldn't bother most, but the filters for the Ram have to come from the USA via backdoor as Royal Purple blocks normal import paths as they have a local distributor - who NEVER has them in stock. So I buy them in packs of 10 to lessen the freight impact. So storage is crucial! 10-48 is the filter, same as a LS. You'd think they'd be kept in stock in Australia.

We do buy the "Racing 20", in 20litre drums when it's on a good special. Some of them would be 2 1/2 years old now. So will need to sequence the use with regard to shelf life.
That said, I am guilty of finding 30 y.o. bottles of 2 stroke in the garden shed, and using it in whipper snippers etc...lol

I prefer a 1971 vintage filter.I find the fruity textures coming through with an oily aftertaste, and classic petrol undertones,I also prefer a red six .but I also buy in boxes of 12.😉

It has been sitting in the ground for a million bloody years!!! A bit like having a use by date on salt.

From what I understand, its an issue with all the extra additives that fall out of suspension in the oil and just wind up in the bottom of the container.
