I just bought a really good HJ 5.0L intake for $50. There are plenty around.

Just thinking out loud.

I would assume that they might be of similar quality to the PooComp stuff that seemed to flood the market years ago.

They were hit and miss on quality of their products.

Given their reputation I doubt anyone would use any of their products that a failure would cause near terminal damage.

But before using a casting such as a manifold I would be doing lots of measurements to ensure it was square in all directions, and also the right width between faces to suit your engine.

Might be worthwhile doing a soapy water test as well to check porosity of the casting.

Have seen people have good results with Chinese stuff, but have also heard horror stories.

Caveat Emptor

Cheers

Rob

I'd buy a good used original GMH one to suit the heads. Or failing that get a multifit Performer or KC one used, there is heaps around. What heads and what MM/YY car?

I just looked on Marketplace, there is a dude selling 6 x manifolds for $400 in Dubbo. One is a HJ/LH 5.0L one and the other is a blue/black V8, plus 4 x 2BBL intakes. I cannot see the water passages though.

Thee is also a nice non-EGR Edelbrock Performer on there is Sydney for $350 (search Edelbrock Performer Manifold - Holden 308/253). Its drilled for all red heads but has the pilot holes to be drilled for VC/WB to VL heads (just needs welsh plugs to put in the red head holes).

As Rob says though, measure to make sure whatever you get fits without machining. If the block or heads have been decked then the manifold might need work too.

Heads are EGR, ( late red) and engine is ZR prefix). and I want a EGR style inlet which eBay ones are to get some heating

Car, doesn’t matter as its not show, but it is early LH ( factory 173)

I have spoken to him, they are eaten out

That Performer in Sydney is a non-EGR intake but it has the exhaust crossover. You don't want or need EGR on an LH.

I will look at that thanks

i don’t want EGR, I want exhaust crossover to get some carby heat, as most driving will be short distance.

We've just taken a punt on an intake from Max Cool Auto Parts. $194 delivered to my door.

It's for my Uncle's 308 to replace one with extreme corrosion. It likely won't be installed for a few months - so I'll provide an update in due course. We're going in hopeful. Fingers crossed!

That looks like a copy of the KC intake just without the plenum ribs. I saw a used KC intake on FB last week for $150, looked mint.

Check that the gasket faces on the manifold have been machined on the same angle as the heads.

I once bought a new Chinese copy of the Edelbrock Performer manifold. The angles were so far out that I had a 5 mm gap at the bottom of the intake gasket and it was touching at the top of the intake gasket.
