What markings / part numbers / castings should be on a 6/75 car, L31 M21.
Any info appreciated.

The brown is the colour for an LH SL/R 5000 tailshaft.

Attached File  Tailshaft XU1. L34 the same I think. LH SLR 4.2 is green. Not sure about 5000.jpg   166.59K   1 downloads

The date stencil will be yellow. E is the day of the week, 17 is the week of the year and 7 is the year.

Gearbox has yellow stencils, but I am unsure of the markings for SL/R 5000. HX is on the rare M21 fitted to 3.08 L34's.

This one is for a GPAK.

In the 80's they had ZD, ZE, and ZL.

Pretty sure the LH/LX 6cyl M20 was coded HL not LH.

Someone went over the top with the stencils on that box. Two stencils per box seemed to be the norm.

I don't reckon that a Torana M15, M20 or M21 would have any different markings to a Holden one from the same timeframe.

All off broadcast sheets:

A 2/77 HX M21 is AN and so is 9/77 HZ.

A 9/75 LH M21 is HV (which I think is the same as a HJ).

A 2/74 HQ V8 M20 is GT.

10/76 LX 6cyl M20 is AI. Earlier (pre ADR27A) is LH.

The only think I can think of that might change them is if the speedo drive gear changed to suit the rear axle?

Many years ago my brother bought a 6cyl M20 box, linkages and shifter out of an LH Torana to put in his LJ. The yellow stencil code on the box was HL not LH.

I remember the code on an LJ 6cyl M20 box is GL.

Wow - many thanks.
Nothing absolutely certain by the looks, but some fair comparisons.
Really need unrestored cars to tell the story.
Thanks again.
