Steering Rack Inner Seals?

Where the hell do I source inner seals on the rack and pinions? This particular rack is from UC. Or are they just a common scraper seal?
Thanks,
Liam

As far as i can recall the only seal is on the pinion shaft and a boot seal on each end of rack.

That is correct. There are no internal seals in Torana manual rack & pinion steering gears.

The nolathane replacement bushes - they locate into the passenger side of rack I presume?

We rebuilt racks for many years & we found the best lubricant to use was high temp lithium grease. If the boot was damaged, any thin oil would quickly drain out & the rack would run dry & wear the gear teeth. Grease lasted for years.

Yep , it is the nylon bit that keeps it all together on drivers side , i think there is a small spring on top of the nylon guide , from memory you need to set up the retaining plate and shims for around 2 thou clearance between the top of the nylon guide and retaining plate .

Hey guys great info here, I have seen the two bearings and the shaft guide bush for sale but does anyone know if there is a full rebuild kit for an LX. including the shims, gaskets and rubber seal as per UCSLE Troys photo above.
Any recommendations on suppliers in WA south west.
Cheers all

I haven’t been able to find anything specifically. Shims and Gaskets look to be DIY from parent sheets. The Oil seal is the only thing that is unknown.

Could it be a worn Guide bush allowing the shaft to drift to one side. Craig from Rusty Muscle Car Garage does a great You tube Vid on rebuilding an early commodore Rack that's pretty close to a Torry rack

the early commodore rack is closer to the UC rack compared to the LX
there is only 1 gasket , i just made it from 0.15 gasket paper
no Gasket on the yoke plate
Shims are same on the pinion and yoke on the LX But the UC has round shims on the yoke side . should be easy to make

Great info, thanks Troy. So realistically all I should need to rebuild is the 2 bearings , the yoke and the Resto Country Rod end and boot kit.
Cheers

Hey mate, No its genuinely bent. From half way along the gear set, no idea how such a heavy duty rod has deflection like this. No idea how I would go about straightening this and heat treating again.

I'd say it's been in an accident, try using a press to straighten.
