Hi All,

I know this would of been asked many times in the past but where is the best place to by a new replacement 12 volt latching relay for LX Hatch.

Don't really what to pay a fortune for a 50 year old one that may or may not work.

Thanks in advance.

I cant find a listing on Resto Country or Rare Spares.

There is some chatter on FB stating they (or a suitable substitute) is available in the UK but no details in the thread I found.

Hi Craig, I would have a good working relay in the shed. I converted both my Toranas to UC style blinker stork so no longer needed and put them with my parts storage.

Are these a flip flop type relay? Like an impulse relay? As in energise the coil to change state and it stays there until pulsed again?

I never noticed it on my LX as I converted it to a WB column/pot and combination switch

Pretty sure thats how they work.

A while back I saw somewhere that someone had done an electronic version.

Cant remember where though, but not a hard thing to do.

Cheers

Rob

My house is wired using them. Each light circuit has one, uses 24Vac supply to pushbutton light "switches". Impulse relays are driven at 24Vac, and switch on for one push off for the next. The last ones I bought were 24Vac or 12Vdc coil, the contact ratings are only about 16A though so would only really suit up to about 160W per contact, example in link:

Yes, and they also provide momentary high beam (non-latching) from a different power source when the lights are off

Latching Relay

I thought it would need to be a 5 pin relay.

Without the wiring schematic of the original circuit, its hard to tell.

Yes it needs NO and NC circuits so you can run both low and high beams. You could do that in combination with a standard 5-pin relay if there isn't a suitable latching one available. Probably need a third to make the momentary flash work.

Check out the LX wiring diagram posted here for a basic schematic, the headlight relay is top/centre:
