I am now officially a crime statistic in the crime capital Melbourne.

My beautiful VF LSA Clubsport was taken from outside my mates place in Bentleigh East between 2pm and 3:30pm today.

No forced entry.

Pretty devo as you could imagine. Called the cops and gave them the details and mentally kissed it goodbye for ever.

The worst part was my garage remotes and other keys were in it….

My mate was kind enough to drive me back to the badlands of Mt Waverley, the only suburb I know of that has has a double household slaying with decapitation, a convicted paedophile tutor and a couple convicted of slavery in the last few years.

As we neared my place the phone rang. It was a stranger saying he had found my car! It was sitting in a car park with the engine running.

Called the cops as they had instructed and bolted back to where the car was.

When I arrived there was a group of very fine helpful citizens who had seen it pull up and a bloke bolt from it into the surrounding streets. After a while a couple of other blokes had turned up in a car, presumably to help complete the theft. The crowd scared them off and after the original thief jumped in their car they bolted.

One of the old ladies had the presence of mind to film the car and note the presumably stolen/cloned front and rear plates that didn't match.

God bless her.

I got lucky.

The car was parked with nothing in front of it. He couldn’t get the club lock off and had driven it in a straight line to the end of the street, over the centre median on East Boundary road and into the car park of the reserve opposite before he ran out of territory.

Joe and Jane public scared them off and one of them had the presence of mind to go through the glovebox, find my number and call me.

The cops were slow and it was getting dark so I didn't hang around. The cops called as I was part way home so I stopped at the next servo and waited for them. They were very helpful and took the tow bar and tongue that the thieves had left on the front seat. Dunno what that was about.

I did ask If I was allowed to perform an aggressive citizens arrest and they gave a wry smile.

Phew!

Wow, good thing you had the club lock.  Hopefully he was gentle going over the kerbs.

Bloody hell.  That is so bad, however lucky as well.

That club Lock saved the day.

How did they get it going? ....the usual OBD2 port / key fudge?

Glad you got it back intact mate.  Too  nice to loose.

Bloody hell Rexy. I haven't left my VF in the city for over a year now because they are so damn easy to steal.  Did you have your horn relocated?  Some of these pricks are carrying cordless grinders with them now for the Clublocks.

Fortunately the median has low profile rounded kerbs.

The car drives fine and the underside looks OK but haven’t put it on the hoist yet.

Had a closer look at it today.

Horn doesn't work so presumably wire clipped. Gives me a chance to replace it with a relocation kit one.

I don't know how they gained physical access. No visible sign of entry and the physical door key barrels are fine.

I assume they accessed the OBD port. Today after sitting with the battery disconnected overnight its like nothing happened. My keys work as intended for locking and unlocking the doors and starting the engine. Engine will not start without key in the car.

Anyone have a preferred immobiliser or other setup? Half tempted to put a battery isolation switch in it.

Great that you got your car back. What an incredible story Rexy.
In Victoria the courts have more sympathy for the thugs who commit crimes than the law abiding people who have worked hard for what they have.
Jacinta Allan and her knitting club are absolutely pathetic and have no desire to fix up the law and order situation as they run the state into the ground.

Bloody hell mate. Shattered when I began reading this - but then stoked to hear the eventual outcome. You've done extremely well - and if no damage done, then that's absolutely incredible.

Order Solid GPS Tracker | 4G SIM | No Wiring Needed https://share.google/eVEryKwZwxVd3BARQ I bought one of these for my car. It won't stop it being stolen. But you can track it immediately.

Regarding access into the car without any damage?..are they now up to the stage where they can copy your key if they stand/ sit next to you?...maybe.
If so, it's all over for owners..

Looks like Landcruisers are also on the menu, via the " CAN bus injection" method.
Grubs.

In discussion with one of my dodgier contacts he had heard there was a “master key” available in the dealer network that would allow access to the vehicle.

Might be garbage but would explain how they gained physical entry without any sign of force?

What the hell!

That's terrible to hear that it happened, but happy to hear the good news in the end.

Lucky you had the club lock, hopefully you can update a few other things to stop it from happening again in the future.

Access point for the horn.

Must have slender hands and wrists as I had quite some difficulty getting in there.

I look forward to snapping their skinny neck when I find them 😊

They were nice enough to disconnect the horn rather than cut the wire. Reconnected for now until the relocation kit arrives.

This is the only damage.

Minor damage was lucky.

But wait until you see the quote the panel beater sends the insurance company.

Cheers
