Has anyone adapted center consoles to fit an LC/LJ? I'm looking to do this, and was lookin' for ideas.

I know Camira consoles fit fairly well, but i was looking for something with higher front edge, so i can mount a 6.5" speaker in either side.

Any help would be muchly appreciated.

Cheers, RIM

The console from a mid-70s Mazda 929 SW fits OK, being from that era it doesn't look out of place either.

Why the speakers in the console?

Because I'm not cutting my door trims, and I have size 14 feet...

Which rules out mounting them in the doors or the kick panels.

Cardboard, then some ply or 6mm MDF, reinforce with 16mm square pine.
Not mine but you get the idea.

It's in an FE Holden.
Looking at a VN Commie console today, at bit of cutting and shutting and you would have a fairly neat console too.

All done, no takers from this forum so I ended up doing a set of Commodore trims -

RIM, if you are in no particular hurry, I might be able to help out with a fabricated and trimmed unit. I have a 4 door LJ in the back paddock to work from, then it's just a matter of freight to your place.

Thanks stinky, but I wanna make it myself.

Sort of the idea of asking for ideas.

I made a template for a console today, out of cardboard. looks pretty feasible, I'll get pics up later.

Mate they look unreal... but, no door handles / window winders??

Do you do that for a job, or just a hobby? - Sorry to hi-jack the thread.

The commodore door handles are where the rectangle cutout is in his pics RpM. Guessing the car has electric windows too.

Aaahh of course ... I was thinking Torana style ash tray, but now I see the door handle for a commy would go there lol...

Thanks RpM, to answer your questions
1. I hadn't cut the holes for the winders yet
2. Hobby at this stage, we'll see how it goes

Sorry RIM, looking forward to the pictures though
