Hi, this isnt about a torana but i was hoping someone could help anyway.
I have just replaced the brake pads on the front and rear of my VQ Statesman and now when i drive there is a loud knocking sound coming from my rear passenger side wheel, it also wobbles the car when it hit that spot. I have taken the pads out and reinstalled them 3 times and i cant seem to find where the sounds coming from. Anyone have any idea whats goin on?

Cheers

It could be a number of problems e.g rear bearing or drive shaft , disc may need machining, were the old pads evenly worn ? How many klm's has the car done?

cars done 260000kms. I had no problem with it before i changed the pads. The ones i pulled off were pretty much even. They looked extremly old. I had a look at the rotor and it has a slight dent/engraving that goes all the way around. I didnt notice it when i took the old pads off but i didnt really take a good look.

Heres a thought, the guides that your caliper run on may be dry, when you put the handbrake on they sometimes get stuck "a bit of grease will fix that" and the caliper wont release that could explain the noise as for the wobble in the wheel don't know, you could try putting another wheel on there and see what happens.

I suppose the rotor could be under size due to wear, there is a minimum thickness that is allowed for machining, but with new pads this should'nt make a huge difference, you can measure the rotor and compare it to measurements in a VQ or VN repair manual, I still think it might be a rear bearing, funny thing is after I had the brake disc machined on my VQ my r/h rear bearing went, this will make the wheel wobble around and I think the VQ and later models had zero tollerence on wheel bearing wear or that may have been ABS models only, you might need to book it in somewhere and get things checked out.

Cheers Chris
