do you have a tyre placard in the vehicle, if you do those are the legal sizes.

my (NSW) engineer at the time had me under the impression that 225 or 8 inch was the max without engineers cert. keeping the origional tyre diemeter ie 225/50/15 is about the same as the standard 13 inch diameter. (approx 4mm over but whos counting).

Grab hold of the vehicle standards sheets for wheels and tyres..from RTA..maybe on website.

My memory of it is you can go upto 26 mm wider than the largest factory fitted rim for your model, it also says you can increase your diameter as much as you want provided you reduce the tyre profile so the wheel and tyre combination comes within 15 mm of stock.

So if your torry came with 13x6 inch rims you can go to 15x7 so long as the tyres you use are low enough.

In most states, a 7" wide rim is legal without an engineers cert. Widest tyre that can be legally fitted to a 7" wide rim is a 275. If you can get away with an 8" wide rim, a 295 is a legal fitment to that rim. Largest diameter tyre in most states would be around 635 - 640 MM. So the 265/50R14 is within those parameters.
