Getting a 253 out

Hey,

Just after some info on getting the 253 out.

How do you guys attach the chain/strap from the chain block to the engine to lift her out??

I have a chain block and a wheelable fixing on the I beam, where im planning to lift it out of the new hatch and wheel it over to the old hatch and fit it in there.

I suppose I will have to take the box off to get it out??

I will be taking the bonnet and radiator out obviously. lol

hey ryan why dont you just bolt it to one of the heads through an exhaust manifold bolt hole or you could bolt the chain in the valley at both ends

As ^^^ said. You dont have to take the box off though if you can get enough height out of your crane/block and tackle.

dont forget speedo cable I always forget. Doh!!

leave the box on. its much easier to separate it when its out and on the ground.
if you can get your hands on some lifting slings they are much more user friendly than chains.

as ^ said, use bolts in the heads etc. i once lifted a 308 out using chains around the bellhousing bolts at the back of the block, and the alternator bracket.

yeah take bonnet off, take out radiator, obviously disconnect everything you can see and label it. never hurts to double or triple check that you disconnected everything!

Yea thanks guys. I do have some heavy duty straps that i will use.

Thats good i can keep the box on so it will be even easier to fit into other hatch.

What i found easiest with gearbox on is to attach my chain head to head towards the rear, making it a little nose heavy, then attach a rope from the front of the motor to the apex of the chain. Truckies hitch or just tie off a loop and you can easily angle it up and down with the rope. You can change a motor on your own without damaging your engine bay this way.

Dont forget about the reverse switch wiring for a manual or the inhibitor switch wiring for an auto.

You wont need to take the pipes out of the bay either.
