hhhheeeeyyy people...been a while since i updated yas all on the status of my mighty torana.

since you last heard from me in this section (on the old forums) i have got a much better job (earning what i used to get in a week in but one day now...)

little while ago i was driving along and had a brake line burst on me...promptly ridding me of any brake pedal at all. now, even though a $8 line owuld have fixed it, i said "screw it", got onto dattoman and a few local places and $800 later the brake specks looked more like: rebuilt front callipers, 3mm spacers (from dattoman) so i can run xu-1 thickness disks, of which are the dba slotted variety, ferodo ds2500 pads and braided stainless hoses (from dattoman), and a stainless sleved master cylinder. this is working with my dual diaphram booster and stocky back drums (for now).

there arright, definitaly needs disks on the back though. the pads are good when they warm up but a bit shakey when cold lol. ah well ya get that on those big jobs.

next, i am going to be pulling the little motor out of torry in a week or so, prolly over the chrissy break. just gonna freshen it up, new rings, bearings and gaskets, got a mildy worked head (equal to about yella terra stage 2), a stage 2 heatseeker cam, the exhaust and igniton (geni extractors and 2 1/2" mandrel bent system, msd6al and blaster 3 coil) on the car atm, twin strommies for the intake and a new clutch. should go alright, it's only a quick throw together to keep me happy (and stop some oil leaks) till i can afford to finish the 202 and get a driveline that will handle it. even so can't wait to get the little motor to the strip and have a run. i'll keep yas updated.

i also just spent a few hundred bucks on my sterio.

i got a new hu and front speakers, now has latest model alpine cde 9834 mp3/cd player and 6 1/2" type s splits. goes fairly well but my old amp seems to be severely underpowering the splits...infact the shitty back speakers (which i have running from the hu) seem to be getting a lot more power...they dominate the system. i have it faded right toward the front atm so it's not to bad, but no where near as loud as it could be. the amp just keeps clipping if i try to turn it up. as i said to a mate who was helping me " seems the lil amp in the hu is making more power than the big amp in the boot". i'll just live with it for now, cbf'd rewireing half the system just to change it back again when i get a better amp. so now i gotta save up for the next batch of audio gear...to finish the system of. will more than likley be gettin a type s 10" sub (type s gear matches my cars color scheme), a v power monoblock to run it and a v power 4ch amp bridged running the front speakers...the back ones can stay running from the hu, i like the stage to be toward the front a bit. i will prolly take the back speakers right out and just put the grills back on...would vent bguckloads of bass through to the cab lol. but yeah, thats about another $1000 or so in gear so will have to wait a little while lol.
i must say it's nice to spend a bit of time on my own sterio for a change. i got the impulse when i went into the local car audio shop with a mate looking for bits for his. i'm doing all the work on this thing and so far it has gone around the 5k mark...still only half done. i'm not that keen to spend big money, but this cheeper gear should do me well once i get the rest of the stuff. will be loud enough for me anyway. i only really use it when on the highway....

nice brakes and fibreglassed(?) dashboard. next on your list "upgrade" list should be painting your calipers blue. that would make your sweet ride look even better
nice car man

Hey mate, nice little beast!

Havnt seen a twin stromberg setup in a while, should go pretty well, I had a mate with a similar setup in an EH and it was lots of fun!!

It's odd with systems, i have 200 watt pioneers in the rear of my subaru and mtx 6" 260 watt splits up front, and the rears seem louder, except all are running off the HU. Bujt will do me fine till start of next year, going to finally build a killer system.

The brakes look hot man, got me geed up for sure when im doing al mine but thats way off, cant believe how much work i have to do.

One thing not generally known about speakers is that the higher the power rating, the less efficient the speaker is. Bolting in a 'more powerful' speaker will not make it louder, if anything it will be quieter. The rating is referring to the speakers power capacity, so in the case of your MTX 260W splits you can run more power to them and ultimately they will be louder than the 200W Pioneers.

Agree with [BOTTLEDUP]. The headunit will also get hotter inside if powering the 200 or so watt speakers rather than 100 watt ones. Depending on which model HU
it is they sometimes switch off until the internal amp is cool enough to use again (pretty common with amps too).

thanks guy's.

yeah i know how that works with teh speakers, but i was expecting the amp in the boot to still be more powerfull than the one in the hu. ah well, i'll get there. sterio is lower on the list but hopefully i'll be able to get the rest of the gear in two months or so.

pulled the motor out this arvy (chrissy eave). had a shit of a run actualy, got two scratches and a dent. first scratch was when taking the bonnet off the wind grabbed it and put a little scratch on my guard, thats almost fixed. second scratch and dent was when dad and i were pulling the motor from the box it gave way in a hurry and hit the rad support pannel. ah well i know to put a bit of rubber there in the future.

but yeah, it's all systems go to start pulling it down tuesday. stupid family things tomorow (would prefer to work on motor than hve chrissy dinner, ah well) and i'm going for a cruise with some mates on monday, but i took the week off work so should be able to get it back together and back in in that time.

i hooked the twins up this morning before pullin the motor out to make sure they would run. and i must say, damb. the motor completley changed, even on the stock motor the response was fantastic. took it for a drive and perfectly smooth, no doughie spots like it had with a single carb. all this and i didn't even bother tuneing them. but atlest i know it wil start and run now when i want to run the cam in. i really can't wait to get this thing rebuilt. it might be a very mild build but i recon it will still go reasonably....specialy considering most the things round town lol.

anyway peeps i'll keep yas updated.

woohoo...ITS ALIVE!!!!!!!

few problems getting the carbs sorted out but apart from that the things going brilliantly. i have a 3000 rpm chip in the msd so she can't really rrreeeevvvvv yet but i got a funny feeling the motors gonna pull fairly well around the 4-5 mark. dosent really cam over till a bit under 2 atm so should be interesting. a few hours after getting it running i went for a quick highway pull and then a drive up mt archer...for all who don't know mt archer is 5km of nice winding steep hilly road. it's truly beautiful on the highway, cruises like nothing else. actualy ahs a bit of power now, although i can't try overtaking yet cause the chip will pull me up at about 75mph. and up the big hill was fantastic. just sat in third, about 2000-2500rpm, doing around 60km/h. i was amazed as i actuly had to keep backing off to stop it hitting the limiter, even up the hill. yay :D . i was told that lower rpm but high load is good to run a motor in and you can't get much beter than that. i've put a bit over 200km on it over the last two days, and about 80 litres in the tank

heres some engine bay shots

hey guy's, welcome to my update page once again.

to save hitting up new threads i'm just gonna keep draggin this sucker up.

to update yas a bit, i havn't acutaly tryed to start torry for about two weeks. she was being a bit of a bitch and i got the shits and parked her and havn't actualy looked at her again. i'm fairly sure i have a dodgy set of lifters, i've been having trouble with them since day one. gonna get a new set and drop em in.

i've also come a bit closer to finishing the door, i've purchased a nice new sub and amp. alpine type s 4+4ohm dvc 12" jobbie and an alpine v power 2ch amp. just waiting on a second amp, alpine v power monoblock, and i'll start work on my boot again. this next boot install should be something very interesting. i'll keep yas updated :D
