My inlaws car had its harmonic balancer replaced for some reason yesterday and they hadnt driven far since, went to start it last night and it wouldnt and its still dead today. Is the crank angle sensor located near the harmonic balancer, i just want to check that everything looks ok. I figured i may aswell just check that the sensor plugs are on firmly before they had to get it towed to a mechanic again.

I might be wrong here but i think it works of the harmonic balancer therefore bolted to the front of the motor, i think it uses the steel tabs that's on the balancer.

Anyway have a look for it as that might be it someone might no better and correct me.

I d/c and re/c the CAS along with a heep of others, jumped in the car and it started after a couple of seconds. I jabbed the throttle a few times and it had a huge flat spot off idle (engine died then picked up) everytime i pumped the throttle. Turned the car off, went away for 2mins came back and came back and tryed to start her and no go. The car idled fine while it was running.

The only thing i found that wasnt tight was a wire connecting to the block between the heater hoses on the drivers side of the engine, i checked the connection and the car still just turns over again. Very odd, i just wish it would have started again even with the hesitation, atleast they could have driven it to the shop to get fixed then.

I couldnt hear any air leaks while i was under there, the hesitation made me think maybe the throttle position sensor or an air leak. The hesitation seemed almost exactly like what happens when i forget to connect the brake booster hose up on the q , the engine would idle but stumble badly as soon as the throttle was pressed.

Ill post in here once its come back from the mechanics with what it was.

Thanks for the help

Damien

Get someone to crank it and thump the bottom of the fuel tank behind the drivers rear wheel. Keep thumping and if the car starts and keeps running it's the fuel pump. If it is low on fuel (less than 1/4) and leaning left, say into a gutter, add more fuel or tow it out of the gutter.

Well they said it was the fuel pump after all that, just a coincidence that it happened the same day they done repairs i suppose. Do fuel pumps usally die around the 190,000km's mark? The car was sitting on a flat driveway with 1/2 a tank of fuel.

150K's upward is the ballpark figure.
