As some of you would be aware, last weekend, Picton/Thirlmere, in the Southern Highlands area of NSW (where I have lived for my entire life) was hit by early bush fires and wind storms etc..
My mates and I all grew up here, fairly rural living and we Loved hooning around in paddock bashers at my mates place. He has since moved out, but his parents still live there, as did his UC Torana. Our first real thrash car. He bought it as his first Road Car when he got his licence. It blew 3 diffs, 2 motors and a gearbox, the paint was crap, the interior was crap, ...the car was pretty shab.
With a trick new motor in it, and a decent diff, it was used as our pub wagon, and then in later days, the new paddock basher. The gearbox blew out on it one day when we were parking it. So it stayed reversed against the fence for a year or so.
Wouldnt go forwards, wouldnt go backwards, but was left there so one day, my mate could fix it up and have it how he wanted (the plan was after he sorted out his house and finances).

As the fires were roaring through our area, I raced around to his mum and dads place to make sure they were ok - property was ok... Got there just in time to see a 40meter gum tree drop down ontop of the torana
Luckily the fires didnt get to the house or anything, and no-one was hurt, but the car was totalled. The front is still in some sort of UC type shape, and I dont know what he's going to do with it yet, but it's definately gone to God as a drivable car.

Sorry for rambling - Just sad to see something that is in so many memories of growing up, get destroyed. As you can see in the pic, its no wonder the tree came down, damn near hollow - still a shame

Always a shame to see anything with sentimental value go down the drain :(

I think that calls for a strip down and replacement shell with a full rebuild, who cares about finances, just stop eating.

On a more serious note, I do hope that another Torana can be built up in replacement and you can take it cruising just like you did in younger years.

a great UC Torana!!!

Don't say that, you'll get Matt and Cohen bitching on about this shit. I'm already getting SMS's from them in their drunken state saying how bad Starfires and UCs are, and how Chuck Norris would never drive one. (And yes, they send me this shit EVERY TIME they get pissed together, which is very very frequently)

Lol, wouldnt be a bad idea... but would need a new diff + tailshaft and some serious anti-sway re-enforcements hehe.

I might see him tonight, see if he's made up his mind about what to do.

Well, it's probably going to the wreckers... he told me last night he would rather see it go and be stripped out and sold for parts, then sit at his mum and dads place rusting away before he gets to it... bit sad... but thats how it goes I guess.
