I am going to fit 14" HQ stud pattern wheels onto the L31 Hatch. Am I best to change axles or get the studs relocated. Which is cheaper / better. Ron

relocating is cheeper and new axles is far better.

Hi Guys.

The Torana axle flange is too small in diameter to allow for the HQ stud pattern (The same problem also exists with the Commodore pattern). There simply is not enough metal to be safe. I've seen it done, but the stud holes are too close to the edge of the flange.

There is another thread on this forum, where somebody has fitted Commodore axles & brakes straight into a Torana housing. As long as the axle length is somewhere near close & your diff has fine-spline side gears, this could be a solution.
