Hi All,

I've have searched the forums looking for info about tunnel mods (if required) to fit the Jatco box in the LC trans tunnel. Currently, I'm using CRS engine mounts and a CRS sump (which is a pain in the @rse - next time I pull the motor out I'll be making some mods to it!)

It seems everyone has put everything except the original RB auto in their cars!

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with fitting the Jatco in, it seems to me that tunnel mods are required but if I can verify this with someone who's done it before it'd save me a lot of hassle - especially if nothing needs to be done. It appears that the tunnel needs to be made 'longer' rather than having a larger diameter...

I know I'll cop a lot of flak for sticking with the Jatco, but I want to keep my column shift. The goal is for the car to look completely stock but be able to keep up, and maybe pull away, from traffic. Long term plans include all sorts of things but for now a stock 30 and Jatco will be going in...

Thanks,

Dave

it fits but wil hang low in the ass.you will get some unpleasant driveline vibes.

ditch the factory wide box mount location and mount it from the other bolt holes on the rear extension housing, maybe even cut the alloy mounts off (the original ones) for more clearance

H Jap-XU1,

Yeah... trial fitting suggested what you said. I really don't want vibration (and premature uni wear) so will have to make a compromise and cut bits out of the tunnel. Hopefully it won't have to go up too far, meaning that the mods will be fairly minor. I was trying to use the original g/box output as a reference point, but have little to refer to unless I want to pull a trimatac apart and use the very rear casing as a basis. Does anyone have any dimensions I could use?

I see your point with the VL mounts, do you know if any vehicles used the further rearward 'flat' mount (similar to GM style)? I was thinking that cutting the VL-type mounts off would aid in clearance, but am also thinking that down the track that when I start chasing serious power, such a mount woudl tie the gearbox to the crossmember a lot better (higher moment of inertia/radius of gyration/ whatever you want to call it). I know a lot of cars get away with the other style mount, but manufacturers msut have made that change for a reason...

Anyway... in short, it looks like some chopping shall be done. Thanks for the heads up mate.. I'm heading up to the car this weekend to give it a go, looks liek I'll have to buy some cutting wheels :) If I find anything useful I'll keep you posted.

Cheers,

Dave
