Hi ppl,

I've seen an add for a 4 pin mini spool and was wondering exactly what it is? I know what a mini spool is but can you please explain to me the 4 pin reference?

Cheers,

4 pin refers to the mini spool being held/locked in place at 4 locations in the hemisphere.

O.k. so is this a special thing, what is the 'usual' number of pins? Are there any pros or cons to such a setup?

4 pinion is better than the old standard of two as it gives the center more load carrying ability.
pinion is the pin that locates the spider or sun gears in the hemisphere.
got an old bango open center laying around, have a look at the small gears inside that run around the axle. the pin they roll around on is the pinion.
so basically the pinion transfers the load from the crown wheel to the axle. the more the better.
full spool does away with the above set up hence it is stronger again.

Ahh, I got it now, I didn't make the connection of pin being pinion, understand whats going on now  . Did 9" come with different pin numbers, like for example the 4 and 2 pin BW or were they all a 4 pin thing or something?
