the JL prefix engine was also available on "S" and "SL" models when the 3300 became an option for all models. Not sure of the exact date, Dr Terry would know.
The JL motor is identical in every way to the QL motor fitted to HQ's (single stromberg, single branch exhaust, same cam, non-adjustable rockers) the only difference is the use of the low-impedance air filter, and a chrome rocker cover with silver filler cap. Very late GTR's used the standard air filter assy, connected to the rocker cover via a gauze filter in the filter.

LJ GTR's did not have the WW Stromberg fitted, this was sometimes fitted afterwards in the 70's by people like me who wanted more power. The JL Torana motor was fitted with the single throat stromberg. I just happen to be looking for a genuine JL motor at the moment - if anyone knows of one lying around gathering dust :D

Dave, LC 2600 & 2850's had the WW strommy, LJ's were just the bog standard JL 202 with single throat strommy. (Did I say I was looking for a JL motor??)

Dave,

The LJ was just a stock six, it relied on the power to weight ratio for its herbs, (and it went OK for its era). The LC's had WW stromberg, twin header manifolds and I think (not absolutely sure) a different cam grind. I had a LJ GTR (73 model) in the 70's, I went from single strommy, to WW strommy to 350 Holley (which bolts straight onto the WW manifold) to triple SU's. If you want driveability I would stay with the single strommy, for power triples are the way to go.

Hi Guys.

A CK XU-1 cam was factory fitted to the 2850S LC GTR.

Also a 350 Holley won't straight onto a 186S inlet manifold, you need an adaptor plate.

Dr Terry.

My September 73 LJ S Four Door parts car came fitted with the 202 JL from the factory. I am pretty Sure hg350 has verified the numbers are all correct.

I am planning on rebuilding the JL with some go fast bits and dropping it into the LJ SL to replace the stock CD block.
