tail lights are the same across all ranges, except some S model toranas had WHITE painted in the surrounds, instead of the more common black (with good reason, looks better).

i think some of the newer models had white lenses and reverse lights, but the rest used the indicators as reverse.

Didnt all 'base' model LC/LJ (S/SL) have body colour between tail lights, i know my tail lights (LJ SL 4dr) still have white between them (orig. colour) as previous owner didnt spray them. I believe GTR & XU1 were black in between as rear end was 'blacked out'. Just my thougths on the subject.

Cheers,
mick

Both my 73 cars have body colours bits on the taillight surrounds. (73 S four door and 73 SL four door)

I also though the XU-1s and GTRs had black on taillight surrounds (outside bits) because of the blacking out of the back of the car.

Hi Guys.

'gooley' didn't mention which model series he is referring to, but he has LC in his photos. In the LC series the SL, GTR & GTR XU-1 all have the same tail-lights, black surrounds with horizontal stripes. Base 4 cyl & both S models have a satin silver surround & no stripes.

I just recoloured my lenses with a lens dye from Autobarn. I've been repeatedly dissappointed with lens dyes but I was going to replace these and just wanted to pass rego. But I am stoked with the result and will keep them. I came in a bottle with no brand, just a dark red label printed

FS0006
RED
Lens Dye
13ml

Of course if you still have the original lenses in good nick, just swap them out of the frames.
