Tassy L34's &A9X's where are they now

Al mine was similar looking to yours but was factory 308 auto, I sold mine to Peter Triffit who worked from memory at Donald Gorringes in Hobart, Pete had it for around 10 years then sold it to another guy who had it a short while then put it on eBay where it was bought and is still owned by forum member Peterpilot who as far as I know still has it today and lives in Sydney.

I Bought a 1977 LX SS Hatch,308 V8, M21 4Speed Mandarin Red with White interior from a Cop that lived at the Rokeby Police Academy, Chris Chivers I think his name was, the year I bought it was 1983 I think, I wonder if its the one you owned.

Al, here is a photo of my old car as it appeared in the eBay advert a few years ago.

Cant be my old one as it was a Factory M21 4 Speed Car, but same colour and interior by look of it.

piggy burdon had an madarin red  L34 in his car yard,colonial motors,new norfolk for 15grand in late 80s early 90s,piggys  friend mick use to get it out and go up to my friends place,i lived just up the road and remember he would be changin into 4th outside my door,he said was doin 180-190 in third when i raced down to c what all the fuss was about,i remember in the back right seat floor it had L34 in orange crayon,pretty sure lyndon still owns it sice it left car yard and has knocked back 100 grand for it that i was told,anyone know of this one

Andrew Mather used to work at Tas TV and worked with the camera man that owned the Black A9X Hatch, Andrew was from here and moved to Hobart, I remember him telling me that someone owned a Red A9X 4 Door in my town, that was back in 1980's, Motors Hobart Sold 2 Red A9X 4-Door's  I wonder where they are now

Not sure about the A9X's in Hobart. The only A9X's that I can remember were the green 4 door that has been well documented on this forum and a red hatchback that was bought from Cam Morrisbys car yard in main road Moonah (about 15k from memory) and was bought by a guy I worked with at the Dept Main Roads in Sunderland Street Moonah.

Motors Hobart sold Brand New 2-Black 4 Door A9X's, One Black A9X Hatch with white interior and a Jasmin Yellow A9X Hatchback and a Red 4-Door A9X Sedan from there dealership

Not sure about the A9X's in Hobart. The only A9X's that I can remember were the green 4 door that has been well documented on this forum and a red hatchback that was bought from Cam Morrisbys car yard in main road Moonah (about 15k from memory) and was bought by a guy I worked with at the Dept Main Roads in Sunderland Street Moonah.

The Green one was sold new from a dealership over the mainland and moved to Tasmania later on, the Red A9X Hatchback you are talking about might be the Ex Garry Rodgers A9X Race Hatch that was painted Red and changed to a road car and moved to Tassy

maz this car is still here and is on this forum with pics of its racing history too. under lhlx section titled my l34 history from memory, went for a run in it in 1989 ish,  I remember it sitting in that yard too. very nice car.

just talkin to my brother retired308 ,told me that Lyndon sold it 15 yrs ago for 16gs and who ever told you that he was offered 100gs had hold of your leg,cant stand lyers,he mentioned that had a smash yrs ago on the tasman bridge,i will check it out on forum

Mark Probert's A9X Sedan, Mark was a Policeman that came to my Town with this A9X, its original Colour was a Maroon Colour, Mark crashed it and got it repaired and painted it in the Ultra Blue Colour, Terry's Bodyworks in Penguin did the repair job on the car, how I know this, I has my SS Hatchback painted Black there by Terry in Penguin, as I asked Mark who painted his A9X Ultra Blue, so I took it there to get Painted Black cause of the awesome job on Mark's car, mark left and moved to Devonport area and put the car up for sale in early 1990's I think, the Car was in Hobart when in the Maroon Colour in the early 1980's.

The Ad above is the last I heard of the A9X, so maybe its still in Tassy or it went to Mainland, yeah $20,000 seems like a great price now

I am trying to get hold of photos of my Garry Rogers A9X from Sandown and Calder meetings between late 1979 and 1981. Could any one suggest any Vic based photographers

who were possibly at some of these events or their web sites (have tried Autopics and Old Race Photos)

Brian Potts sold the Gene Cook LC V8 sports sedan to the Lusty brothers who were Bathurst regulars but I don't know if they sill have it or not but Brian had someone contact him for information on the car some time back. Maybe it is still out there ready for a resto.

The Ex Gene Cook LC GTR V8 Torana came up on a Facebook, and was said to be not around any more, so not sure ?????, be Nice if it still is, As Judith Durham had it as a Loaner from GMH for a while when Brand New and Judith did a Ad for GMH where she Sings and there are LC Torana's in the Ad, and near the end of the Ad there is a LC GTR Torana, is it the one she got to Drive ?? The Ad is on Youtube

Can someone elaborate on this alleged smash on the Tasman Bridge for me please, I've yet to hear a definitive account of this rumoured event.

Rare Ultra blue...? It's not a factory ultra blue car, so false advertising

Truth in advertising was always like that back in the 80's and 90's. I lost count of how many cars I looked at that had the A9X body kit and proclaimed they where an A9X in the advert. You get there and its not even close to an A9X and not even a half assed attempt at a clone (LOL - most still had std drum brakes on a bango or 9").

I would love to know how many people got hooked into buying something they never new anything about and just based buying it on trust?? Had to remember they where not worth what they are today and most people for such low figures just couldn't be bothered with the trouble of a law suit for false private advertsing.

Crazy but many many magazines where proclaiming almost every torana featured with flares was an A9X or L34 which didn't help. Have to remember in the early 80's we where buying these for $8.5 to $10k they didn't get to $20k till much later. Hell GMH dealers couldn't sell them all till very late 78 and  they where doing good deals by then to get rid of them and clear more space for the dunnydore stock.

I just found an old Sept 1987 Street Machine magazine with the Countdown Zero (win a Bathurst A9X Supercar) and I read the absolute crazy article (6 pages) all about the A9X. It's little wonder people still regurgitate the same garbage today as they did in 1977, 1987 and still in 2014.

Anyone of my sort of vintage who has driven, owned a factory std A9X will tell you the key and big shocking thing about the A9X was that it handled far better than other Torana and had far better brakes. Other than that without all the normal forum BS of pumping up your ego it was again just the "same same" as any other 1977 5 litre torana. I think we just where amazed that GMH could get the excessive and horrible understeering down to more sensible levels and give the ability of the Torana to stop in a reasonable distance repeatedly without the brakes frying from spirited use.
