Hi There,

Has anyone got a picture of an LX SLR L32 in Royal Plum.

I am restoring one and would like to see what it should look like from
the factory . I am particularly interested in the look and colour of the side
stripe . :D

Yes noticed that one but it is a SLR5000 and I was interested in getting
a picture of an L32 (4.2 Ltr) version.

Thanks for the thought though.

Cheers
David

Unfortunately that would not help. That would help find out how mine
would look in that colour , in fact I have already done so.

What I am after is to find out how it should look from the factory and
or showroom when new.

e.g postion of badges ,shape and position of the stripe ,colour of the
stripe with that main colour etc.

I have a Royal Plum Metallic LX SLR that originally had an L32 motor.

It has two thin (few mm thick) silver pinstripes that start under the rear window and meet at the front guard.

My guess is that these were probably placed on at the dealership as many dealers added extras to Toranas to help them sell.

I bought mine second hand and I assume the original Holden dealership also added front and rear spoilers and blacked out the bonnet and window surrounds. It also has the chrome strip around the windows.

The SLR's didn't come out with spoilers, SLR 5000 stripes nor those ghastly thick stripes that the SS's came out with if that is what you're talking about.

The SLR's also have a blacked out section on the front end under the radiator but for some reason mine didn't have this section blacked out and there is no evidence that the front end was ever replaced.

It also has SL/R badges on the front guards and TORANA lettering on the front nose cone passenger side.

Is it an L32 or SLR5000 like his username indicates?

If so wouldn't an SLR5000 be issued with different options/colour scheme.

Hi There,

Thanks for all the replys , I will try a PM to SLR5000 and see how I go
but thankyou to 'toranavista' for the SLR picture . Although its not Royal Plum
it at least shows what the stripes should look like.

If you have any other pictures it would be useful as I have come up with some
other bits to check . e.g

Should an LX SLR have have an SLR badge on the rear panel next to the
number plate like the LH did ?

Did LX SLR's have woodgrain dashes or silver ?

Looks like there are differences between LX models even month to month.
Mine is a 4th month of 1976.

Ive had 2 LX L32's 1 had the woodgrain dash the other had the silver, but from what ive seen "most" not all- the black/golfball interiors have the silver, brown/chamois have had the woodgrain, but might be different

All LX SLRs had the silver dash from the factory, this includes 202,253 and 308.

An LX SLR doesn't have an SLR badge on the rear, they have TORANA on the left of the bootlid and engine capacity on the right, the same as an SS. The SLR badges are on the front guards. The dash facia in an LX SLR should be silver, woodgrain SLR dashes were only available in the LH SLR3300 and 4.2, and the grain was much darker than the SL woodgrain dashes of the LX range. The surrounding dash in an LX SLR was sometimes painted to match the trim colour of the car, ie if your trim was brown, the dash surround may be brown

^ positively inspiring ---> not. Spose it was the 70's.

Here is a pic of an LX SL/R, but obviously been debadged and destriped during it's life. Toranavista, what colour would the stripes be on the Royal Plum?

Never new much about the LX SL/Rs. All good info.

Mine is a 4th month of 1976.

As far as I know only the 3300 had the SLR badge on the rear panel.

I currently own an L32 SL/R, Royal Plum Metallic, 9th month of 1976, post pollution gear with original paint.

It has a black interior with sargeant stripe cloth inserts in the seats and silver dash.

Two SL/R badges, one on each front fender.

It does not have the side stripes like the red one in the photo has and I don't think any Royal Plum ones had them. If they had them my guess is they would have been silver, I have two tiny pinstripes a few mm each, one thicker than the other.

It has a rear spoiler and no evidence of any lettering underneath the spoiler.

I have modified it with a 308, Supra 5 speed and Borg Warner LSD.

Thanks Guys,

What I have seen seems to line up with MRNOS's info , A very long time ago I rode in a Mandarin Red LX SLR with Chamois interior and it had a woodgrain dash.

I have never however seen brown with silver , must be a bit rare ?

I cant say I can ever remember seeing a royal plum with the stripes. As an educated guess I would have to agree the most likely colour would be silver. Keep in mind that most models have a delete stripes option. For the purpose of the restoration a lack of stripes would not make it any less authentic. Keep in mind the cost of replicating and then producing the stripes. sstorana has been down this path and may be able to offer some advice if you PM him. I can guide you in the direction of an original car if you want to pursue measurements or templates etc.

I have seen a couple of royal plum LX SLR's and they had the stripes in silver.
