The correct tool is called a pipe spanner.. like a ring spanner but with a small section of the ring missing.. just big enough to go over the pipe and then onto the nut part of the pipe fitting. They usually come double ended.. ie 3/8 7/16 or metric 10/12 mm.

Yes i have one of those. I was more referring to how to remove the brake lines without making a mess, ie. spewing brake fluid everywhere.

Oh and more pics of some more rust to come... will post them soon.

Cheers Leigh

oh and i should mention that i have two other donor cars here for the rust repairs. Out of both the cars i have one of them has the right section rust free in order to be cut out and welded in.

The only bits that i dont have are the windscreen channel sections but i havent removed the windscreens yet.

So basically to fix all the rust all we would have to do is go to either one of the donor cars, cut out the required piece and weld it in... no fabrication needed... that i know of anyway!!

Cheers

just a quick update after spending most of today in the shed. have removed both front guards, bonnet and hinges, dash, and the rear seat. i have cleaned most of the goo used on the guards and started wire wheeling the surface rust. heres a few pics:

mmm mmm! more rust... had to expect that one though, behind the hinges.

Also is there any interest in the 173 6cyl. that is in it? i will hopefully be removing it soon so if anyone is interested let me know as you can still hear it running at the moment. Motor runs beautifully, has done about 300,000 k's without a rebuild (that i know of) but still runs like a charm.

Cheers Leigh

Ok re brake lines... just remove them and if you make a mess, wash it down with water... as brake fluid is water soluble. Its also hygroscopic which is why everyone should replace the fluid @ every 2 years.

I sold the 173 and trimatic that came out of my LH for $100, I tyhink I did very well getting that much for it!

how long are you looking at taking to get the car done? is it going to be a long term project?

yeah id be wrapped if i could get something like that for it!

well with the amount of time required for uni (and im sure your well aware how time consuming it is!!) this will be a long term project, with my only spare time most likely being saturdays and holidays, theres also money constraints (i dont exactly have a high paying job... stupid supermarkets!!) so i will be really happy if i can get it up and running with in the next 18 months or so.

cheers mate. yeah i know, thats exactly how i see it. basically at the moment i am just trying to hunt down all the cancer and try and get on top of it, ie slow the corrosion process down so that when i can get the stuff cut out its hopefully not as bad.

yeah definately gotta organise something! real keen to meet some of you guys from here and start the learning process!! drop me a pm if you like when you think you might be free, preferably Saturdays for me.

Cheers
