~ Had 8 cameras and a 4GB hard drive. Got almost a month of saved vision from memory. ~

Assuming you mean 4TB?

The Synology setup I have only records when a trigger event occurs, plus it back-captures a specified amount of time before the event (I have mine set to 10 seconds) and continues recording a set amount of time afterward. I have all my recordings going to a dedicated 8TB drive that rolls-over un-tagged recordings on a FIFO basis. I haven't actually checked but I think I get quite a few months worth of video before it starts recording over old stuff.

It would be much longer if we didn't have a mob of kangaroos and a bloody 'pet' horse triggering (no pun intended) the cameras all the time!

My NAS has gotten a little outta control though, so far I've added the expansion unit with five more hard drives (for a total of nine in this NAS) and I've currently got 120TB worth of storage... and I'm starting to wonder what I'm gonna do to expand that again soon!

Granted most of that is taken up by media (movies / TV shows / etc.) but at $800+ per 16TB hard drive it's getting to be a rather expensive hobby!

Yeah. TB. Moment of brain fade.

Might look into an event recorder this time.

What I had previously recorded full time but gave a graphic of when events happened.

That made it simple to fast forward through events only.

Didnt have the ability to not record though.

Im nowhere near as concerned with unwanted visitors here as I was when living down the coast.

I was across the road from a skate park, and the block next door was vacant and was a well used short cut across the golf course behind me.

Anyone who thinks skate parks are a great idea has never lived close to one.

Crime doesnt seem as bad here either.

Have chatted with a couple of local cops.

Bit of a drug problem and the odd break in.

But not a huge problem.

But with the distance from the front door of the house to the shed, wouldnt mind seeing what was going on out the front.

Will do some more research on it once the main things in the shed are sorted out.

Cheers

Rob

'Anyone who thinks skate parks are a great idea has never lived close to one.'

Same can be said about racetracks and pubs, but I personally would happily live next to them.

When I lived across the road from the skate park, the local drinking hole, the club, was also my next door neighbour.

I lived on a main thoroughfare, with the local shops also across the road. So, foot traffic was also frequent for patrons of the club heading home.

A motel on the other side of the vacant block beside me meant regular traffic.

Even my behind me on the golf course there was foot traffic from those taking a bit of a shortcut.

In all honesty, in close to 10 years, there was problems associated with the club perhaps 6 times.

By comparison, at least twice a week there was a disturbance associated with the skate park.

More often than not, it was the younger teens that caused the most havoc at night.

Maybe they hadnt been taught any respect from their parents.

But being 13 or 14 and out and about after midnight likely meant they had little in the way of good parenting.

About 3 months or so ago I got a delivery of my shed.

I thought that things would progress fairly quickly from that point, but it wasnt to be.

I rang the builder and was told start of May.

That came and went, so I rang the supplier last week.

And, yesterday he made a start.

Progress at lunchtime

And roughly where it finished yesterday arvo.

Builder works on his own, and so far his attention to detail looks like it will be a quality build.

He reckons about a week to complete it.

Along the way I had a little mishap while tidying up around where the build is going.

Took quite a few stitches to repair.

But I have a mate who is rather competitive. He is building his own shed and managed to do this.

Mine was with a circular saw, his was on a table saw.

At least we are keeping the doctors busy.

CRIKEY!!!

The injuries aren't too flash (especially your mate, the poor bugger), but great to see progress with the new shed, looks like a great size.

The mate had to have 2 of his end joints fused as he had totally stuffed the joints.

They fused them slightly bent so they would be useful.

All that remains on the shed frame to do is the bottom tophats on the end walls and the door opening framework.

Builder had another job to attend to today, but will be back tomorrow.

Meanwhile I have been under the house enduring 60 years of sewer leaks running the power for the shed.

Once the shed is done, it will be time to replace all the clay pipes.

Ive had to fix one major leak, but there are a series of joints running from the shitter that have small leaks.

Not a job Im looking forward to doing.

Cheers

Got lots of them lying around the yard.

When I cleared for the shed I found an absorption trench and tank.

Lifted the covers and it had never been used for sewerage.

Was scratching my head until I dug the trench for power.

There was clay pipe running off the rainwater down pipes that headed down that way.

But they ended up stopping on a length of tin pipe.

Seems someone did 3/4 of the job but never got around to hooking it all up.

Not sure I want to spend the time digging up the pipes from under the house though.

Maybe the run out in the yard when I get around to rebuilding the existing garage.

But for the time being it is the shed that is the priority.

Then the prep work for the pool.

Then maybe the sewerage.

Gotta find a tame plumber that doesnt mind me running the pipework.

Cheers

Rob

Had some progress for a few days.

Shed has walls done, doors fixed and half a roof.

Half a roof and final trim bits to do.

Attached File  half done.jpg   175.49K   11 downloads

Builder finished early on Wednesday to get ready for his long weekend.

He is heading to the Perth State of Origin.

Said he will be back Wednesday.

So I started to fill the shed.

As everyone says, it might not be big enough. lol

Plenty of room left to build another one if I have to.

Cheers

Rob

So the shed itself is finished.

Have started on the internals.

Wiring is all but done. Got almost all the electricals done for the "working" part of the shed.

Have started lining it with yellow tongue. 20 sheets down, another 40 or so to go.

Started building benches.

First attempt wasnt exactly brilliant, but its a learning curve.

I assumed the slab was more level than it actually is, and that the uprights sat exactly square to the edge.

Not quite so.

Second bench I set up with a laser and worked from that.

Should have done that the for the first one.

Small bench complete, larger one waiting for the 3mm sheet to be delivered.

Cant seem to get the pics to orient properly

Yellow tongue is chipboard flooring.

Was around 50 bucks for a 3600 x 800 sheet.

Looked at a few different options and it worked out cost effective.

Its strong enough to be able to fix reasonably heavy stuff to.

Screwed directly to the framework.

Reasonably insulation quality for temp and sound as well.

Andrew. I actually have a sticker cutter so might actually do something along those lines.

Thanks for the idea.

Cheers

You can only edit a post for something like five (5) minutes from the initial "submit", after that it's locked to stop people deleting old posts (or so I'm told).

I am looking for a smallish block of land, around 12,000 square metres. Then the shed goes in. After that, the grandpa flat. I was hoping for the shed to be around 630 square metres, but that ain't gonna happen. Click the link to see the current plans. It's about update #15

That'll be big enough ......... for a while  :nudie:  :) I reckon you may as well just extend it a couple of bays and incorporate the Grandpa flat under the roofline.

Question: How many sheds are enough?

Answer: One more than you've got!  :badabing:
