LC and LJ GTR and XU-1 production #s

I have seen the following numbers presented as the total production numbers for the LC and LJ XU-1s. I have never seen any figures for the basic GTRs
LC XU-1 1633
LJ XU-1 1667
I know that the above numbers have been challenged for being inaccurate but as far as I know nobody has attempted to correct them.
For what it is worth, for the past week I have been carefully checking the LC/LJ VIN disk and have arrived at the figures below:
LC GTRs 6570 (On sale for 28 months)
LC XU-1s 1405 (On sale for 18 months)
LJ GTRs 3594 (On sale for 24 months)
LJ XU-1s 2181 (On sale for 24 months)
Any comments?

Is there any chance of narrowing that down to how many LC GTR's were produced from 7/71 ownards? Just want to know how many they produced with a 173 engine.Hi all

I have actually tried converting the vin files into word format, using the OCR function... it doesnt work perfectly since a fair bit of the text is crappy and difficult to recognise.. but it does make a good starting point for someone (like yourself with too much time on their hands) to do the conversion, and then go through and edit all the mistakes the OCR generates. In the end would have a fully searchable document that would make life very easy..
and on another topic with regard to these vin discs etc. that are selling prolifically on ebay.. are they subject to copyright laws ? I have noticed vin discs, parts catalogues and even service manuals for any car you can think of on CD.. obviously scanned.. does anyone know if there is a limit to copyright laws. i.e. a time limit ? does the originator need to maintain a copyright ? and while i think of it, in the seventies there would not have been scanners etc. so is it actually illegal to make a CD of a 70's copyrighted material, when in actual fact you are not printing it out... therefore not reproducing it..kind of..???

Hi GTR-1Have you got any other informative information about them? (173 GTR's)
The only other useful info from the CD is that the last Brisbane GTR was completed on 1/12/71 and sold in Jan '72 and the last Adelaide GTR was completed on 31/12/71 and sold in Feb '72.
If you PM your VIN I could probably work out where your car fits in the scheme of things.

NOW SELLING on E ay for 10 bills....Hi in reply to Skapinad question about copyright. On the inside cover of the parts catalogue it states that Reproduction in whole or in part prohibited without written approval. I emailed Holden about getting approval to scan the parts document the reply was you will need to put your request in writing to the Holden legal department if they decide it is okay they will notify you in writing. Anyway you look at it legally if its scanned, photocopied etc you are still reproducing someone elses material and are breaking copyright law.
everybody got one???

HiShit bazza quite a feat mate. You must have square eyes. Did you have a cricket score counter or something?
It took about a week @ 5 - 8 hours a day to run the eyes over the near 150,000 entries. I highlighted the relevant BETSBAC codes then put them on a speadsheet (just the totals for each page - not the actual PSN codes). I double checked everything so I reckon my results would be pretty accurate. I used to do a lot of data analysis type stuff in my last job - so I am used to this kind of stuff.
Another interesting thing - GTRs represent 6.9% of the total number of LC/LJ Toranas and XU-1s 2.4%.
It was just something I was curious about as I didn't think the published numbers made sense.

A little quieter up here !!!!!!!!!!
Have you done a spread sheet of LJ XU-1,s built at the Adelaide plant in the months of August, September and October. If so have you any theories on what may have taken place at the Adelaide plant in these months ? They are all over the place like they got hit by a bomb. Any ideas ?
Thanks Bazza

The Adelaide production over that period of 1972 was;
July - 5
Aug - 90
Sept - 152
Oct - 25 (most in the second half of the month)
I think there was similar activity in Brisbane.

I have always wanted to know the answer to this question. How many 1973 LJ GTR's were there made in the colour Covert metalic. I havent seen any on the road or anywhere else, and no one seems to be able to answer this question for me. you seem like you have the lowdown on this maybe you can help. i just want to know if it is worth me repainting the car back to that awefull colour or not.

Sorry the VIN CD doesn't give that info (don't we all wish it did). In fact, getting the original engine number is a bonus.
Like most things, whether it is antique furniture, vintage guitars or cars etc etc, good original examples are always worth more. I was told once, and someone will correct me - that in the case of cars (with all other things being equal) being refinished in the wrong colour will reduce its value by 10 - 15% over a refinished car having the correct colour.
This is not as savage as in the case of antiques or vintage guitars (which I know a bit about) where refinishing in any way will reduce the item by 40 to 50%.
I go for originality (Lime Green Met in my case) but I would be happy with any colour XU-1. In my view, there are many less appealing colours than Covert Met.

Of those XU-1 production figures for those months where does that put L215999 ?.
Mine has its original 9/72 ADR tag but was supposed to be finished 10/10/72 apparently. In other words is my car a September car or an October car?.
I`d be keen on your thoughts.
Cheers
Paul.

215999 completed 10/10/72
215600 completed 12/10/72
What about 211736 completed 15/9/72 with a circa May '72 engine number? In fact there are number examples where the engine number jumps back well out of sequence. Maybe these cars were retrofitted with the JP?
