The Movie FJ HOLDEN was made in 1977 and was a realistic portrait of the car based youth culture of western Sydney - namely Bankstown/Punchbowl area. An excellent website -

-
http://www.collectingbooksandmagazines.com/fjother.html

- provides great details and viewers comments. So why mention it here?

One of the characters DEADLEGS drives an EH (or EJ) Panel Van with a GTR steering wheel and GTR floor console. So a Torana connection already.
Just to update some of the scenes from the movie.
- No 17 Stretham St where Ann lived. The fibro house is no longer there. Now replaced with a more modern 2 storey structure. Although fibro dwellings are still in abundance in the suburb
- Bankstown SQUARE is NOW called Bankstown Centro. Although there are food courts, the actual WORLD FAIR has gone. Pity as the Sweet n Sour looked good .....
- Roberts Rd Chullora where Kevin was pulled over after his altercation with the Valiant is now a kerb and gutter 6 lane thoroughfare.
- SIDS (a long time uppercrust restaurant) is now a SIZZLER eatery

SO SOME FORUM QUESTIONS. Does anyone know ??

1. Where are the original FJ (Kevins) and the EH Panel Van (Deadlegs)? Now a SIMSMETAL ghost?
2. Where did Kevin live? ie street and suburb (it was on a corner in the film)
3. Where did they go for a smorgasboard lunch with Kevin's dad and play the pokies?
4. Are the characters in the film still about today?
5. Where was the bottleshop scene where they picked up supplies? The cops go by saying
'look at that lot.'

Looking forward to some historical reflection and discussion.:dontknow: Dave

Alot was filmed at Bankstown square and the race was out at homebush as far as i know.
AMC macgazine said that the old FJ was still getting around, no idea on deadlegs EH.
I wonder if the HK GTS is still around.
As for actors just google there names to see if there around.
Here some of the cars http://www.imcdb.org...-FJ-Holden.html
More info on the film

Thanks Guys. This is all great historical reflection! And of course nostalgic to boot!.

But can we if possible answer the outstanding questions I deparately seek, Yep I do have the movie, but am trying to pinpoint those elusive 'ones' ie locations

It will be 35 years soon since the making of this movie. Perhaps a drive by of the movie locations could be done. ie Say start at Harrys in Liverpool (big meet area) then onto SIDS aka SIZZLERS at Lansdowne, then Stretham Ave PANANIA, then homage to South Tce near the SQUARE, then Roberts Rd Chullora and then .... (do we do Undeerwood Rd at Homebush as well)?

I welcome the feedback... and FJ RUN (aka any bloody HOLDEN!)

I was only 5yrs old then but ones of mums friends that lived round the corner had 2 boys, the youngest who was also 5yrs old, played David.
He is still alive and well.

She still remebers how she had to go to this house in Panania with David to shoot the film.

I'm showing my age now, but I was at Brickies (Underwood Rd Homebush Bay) on the nights they filmed those scenes in that movie. My brothers & I had several 'hot' Holdens in those days (EH p/van, LJ Torana, EH sedan, HD wagon etc. etc.) They filmed literally hundreds of cars dragging, doing burnouts & speed runs, but only used a few in the movie. Funny thing is we all got paid. I can't believe how much Roberts Rd has changed, it looked like a bush track back then.

One thing not factually correct about the brickies scenes is that that's not where the racing really took place. The drag racing was always on the main straight part of that road. The section where they filmed only is 200 metres long.

It comes up on foxtel classics too every now and then, usually when they have an Aussie classic run of movies.

Talking about Roberts road i just realizied i drive on it everytime i go to work not knowing its where they filmed that scene.Iast night while driving on it i was trying to guess where they may of pulled him over. lol

Im not 100% sure but Kevins house was in or near Georges Hall.

I havent seen David for years and im sure his mum wouldve remembered the school as she would have to of been with him during the shoot.I will ask my mum to ask next time there on the phone to each other.

I will ask another mate of mine about Kevins house as when i spoke of the film, just a few weeks ago funny enough,he said it was all filmed around his area(Panania etc) so maybey he can shed more light.

Also funny enough i made a wrong left turn off the Hume hyw into Sizzlers at Carramar last week also not realizing it was the old Sids.
