Pardon the off topic pic, haha...  I'll take some better pics and post them in another thread over the weekend. :D

It's LS powered and a Holden with 2 doors, so nearly like the Torana, lol

Hi Daz, you may have already done this, but i was wondering if you have ducted a/c through the consule for the back seat driver's ? I think a/c in old tuff cars is a great idea as it gets the family to enjoy your passion as well. If i was doing a retro car like yourself that would definitely be my plans. Good job, so many people have been bringing up about retro fit a/c with me lately when i chat with people, must be qld weather ? I know someone was talking to me about a mini sized system last year at a swap meet and i cannot remember the brand & stuff me if i haven't had 4 people this week saying hey Gaz, have you seen where you can get them ? Wasn't vintage air, chinese (but okay quality) i think. He even said you can get them from such & such need to carry a note pad i think, Gary.

Hi Gary, nah no ducting through to the rear for this car.

Yeah, there are a few aftermarket AC brands.

There was a bunch of brands when I had looked around too.. the one I went with was made by a company in Texas who are gone now, was a bit cheaper then vintage air which is why I had picked it..works fine though. (It uses vacuum actuators instead of the more modern VA with electric ones from memory)

(And yep, VU :D )

So I finished off the AC install a few days ago and then this morning put the car back together so I could drive it out to watch drag week at Calder.

Anyway, i estimate it took 80 hours to install including all the fab work, wiring, making lines etc so by no means was it a simple job.

The good news is that the performance is really good. The heat from the heater is way hotter than standard and the AC blows ice cold.

This is the manifolds on the inner guard which goes to the condenser, compressor and water pump.

Pretty damn busy up under the dash. Fortunately my custom steel glove box will still fit in. No way the cardboard one would fit!

If I get time, I plan to fit cruise control before the nationals. I've got heaps on the next few weeks so I might not get around to it.

Again, nice work Darren! Looks good, neat and sounds like it works very well.

Did you make the swaged gas hoses or get someone to do it?
Did you buy all the bits as a kit from the one place?
Are you using a pressure switch anywhere?

Cheers, Tom

I was looking at the photo of the pump, & thought it was the hp switch near it but it looks to small, wouldn't it have to have a high pressure switch in the system usually near the receiver dryer. Is it running a sanden pump ?

Yeah the HP switch screws into the receiver dryer.
The comp is a factory commodore variable rate one.

Hi Daz, the commodore pump seems to fit in there okay, not heaps of room, but it fits. they seem to not be able to fit in a few ls1 conversions. I don't know if you have seen some the patrol conversion stuff on the market, but it's not really professional. 1 has the front of the engine to the passenger side about 2" which they say is fine & normal ???? We stuffed around with my friends conversion for ages so it fitted properly, there was a lot of fixing some products supplied. & i was interested to see you're stuff fitting in a torana. I think it's a great conversion in a torana. If you haven't already listed the sump & mount brands, could you please inform us which are the best to buy for the job mate ? Gary.

Hi Gary, I used moroso 20140 sump and tuff mounts.
Since i did the conversion, 4 years ago, i think better combos have come out to make things fit better...not that I have issue with my gear.

The 4wd experience you're talking about is similar to horror stories I've heard.

Hi Daz, do you know if anyone has used the f body rear hump ls1 gm sump I'm sure that's what we used on the patrol. & fitted well & was pretty cheap $280 ish I think. Someone in Australia was importing them for hq ls by memory, what was the worst job on the conversion mate, do you think ? Gary.

Hi Gary,
I had one of those sumps for a short while and measured it up.
The pan is just way too deep for a Torana. The damn thing would go close to dragging on the road in my car with my ride height. It seriously hung about 30-40mm lower in the hump than the bottom of the k frame.

If you mean F body as in original LS1 body cars, then no...my engine came out of an F body (2000 Camaro SS) and no way the original sump would have fit.

If you mean like a first gen F body conversion pan, then that is what most of the ones used are I think... (LS1 into a 68/9 camaro, etc, etc conversion sump that is from all the various manufactures out there. I used a Moroso on mine)

Thanks guys, the moroso sounds like it would be the best sump to use then. 👍
