Hi guys, I have a few things I need a hand with, wondering if anyone could please help?

1. What would the correct fuel cap be for an 1970 LC XU1 Black or chrome with lion decal?

2. What colour are the genuine shocks for 1970 LC XU-1?

3. Do 1970 LC XU-1's have inner splash guards were flutes are?

4. Whats a good front spring to use, close to standard height for 1970 LC XU-1?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards
Pauli

Hi

The fuel cap has come up on numerous occasions:

Personally, I am on the "plain black" side of the argument.

Cheers

Yep plain satin black for the fuel cap, shocks more of a dark than light green.

Thanks guys. I also believe they were full black with no lion decal. As every old magazine or picture from 1970 I have come across were all black.

I am also interested in knowing about the inner splash guards on the 70 LC XU-1 (the ones that cover the flute area) My car does not have them, I have also seen another couple of unrestored 70 LC XU-1's without them. Interested to know what other people have found.

Kind regards
Pauli

Hi

This panel should be fitted to both sides. There is also a rubber filler strip that goes between the outside edge of the metal panel and the inside of the guard.

Cheers

Thanks Bazza. Strange how many LC XU-1's that I have seen are missing them, including mine.

Hi all,

Wouldn't mind hearing from others that know their 70 model LC XU-1's and see if they have ever seen these splash panels missing or on.

Regards
Pauli

Or not I meant sorry.

Hi Pauli,

Do you think the Flutes would be more useful if the splash panels were not there?

if you think about this, in a muddy terrain, as Australian Cars were built for all conditions,

there would be a lot of mud in behind the Flutes hey.

So I say the screws that hold the panel fall out over time,

or the panel rusts and gets removed,

or is taken off for personal preference.

my LC GTR had them in the 80's, and have seen the screws come loose

Pauli

Those splash panels are std fitment on all LC & LJ Torana models. You should fit a set to your car or as Dave (Gaspower) has said you will end up with a bucket load of road grime/mud/gravel etc etc building up in there causing rust to grow.

i can imagine it would only be good for their business sales and in our best interests

If you have no Luck getting the Correct Sticker, you could do this:-

- Get A4 printer sticker sheets in a packs of 10 or so, for Stickers and Iron On.

- Get the correct 'LION' design logo, on your PC and fit as many of them for one A4 sheet and press Print.

I have done this for stickers and also Iron On pictures for Tee Shirts too.

Asking Les and Edan is a great idea too.

maybe we could get a few guys together and ask edan or les
