The're called Hobb switches.... you can get them in different pressure settings.

I used a car horn in the race car...with a switch you could turn on after the engine started or had oil pressure...

your eyes are awfull busy in a race car...your ears a basicly along for the ride...

IMHO...

A round trailer brake light mounted above steering wheel is one option I have seen in race cars......

Long before Autometer made such things, I pulled an old VDO gauge apart, threw away the guts and fitted a brake light bulb holder and a red lens.

It slotted right into the dash with all the other gauges, looked like a professional job, cost me nothing and was bright as...

VDO 231.081 is the correct replacement oil pressure switch for the Holden Red 6.

Hi Grant.....howd the tacho go?

From my old tech / TAFE days 1 atmosphere  = 101kpa  = 14.7 psi.

As Andrew says above, its about 3.6psi.

I think the generic Holden switches that make the ""oil""  light come on, are about 7psi...thus 3.6 is not much....and means its time to turn the engine off!!

Found this a little while ago AFTER I bought a 'sandwich plate' adapter. :banghead:

Would be VERY handy when trying to position a sender or switch with bugger-all room and trying to get the angle just right.

I only needed the 1x extra port for a pressure sender.  Now I've got 3x. :<_<:

Am using " gulf western " 25 - 70 comp plus" in the car.$33 for 5 lts which i think is pretty good.

changed the oil today and took awhile of the pressure to come up which was a bit of concern but came up.

also noticed that the oil filter was pretty loose so when I put it back put the hose clamp and some tie wire to another point.on the car.

Drilled the sump plug as well.while i was there and tie wired it to the chassis

Col got the tacho sorted BUT it's 500 rpm out - need new tacho

Pete - i have an extender in the garage which i will try to use - but i have changed so much since the last outing i dare not change anything else prior to giving it a good run and see what happens.

post this meeting im going to put the idiot light in

you could probably run this off the " external pump line " given thoes fittings.

Unless you have solid engine mounts of course?

Col got the tacho sorted BUT it's 500 rpm out - need new tacho

Most tachos will have an adjustment inside them for fine tuning, separate from the 4-6-8 switch. There should be a little potentiometer on the circuit board somewhere, it might be shown in the instructions if you still have them?

It shouldn't be a straight 500rpm out, it should be a percentage so the inaccuracy gets larger as the revs increase?
