I had a metallic blue HK 307 auto 3.36 with 34000 miles when i was 21 yrs old ,it was rated at 210hp and it did 16.6 1/4 mile at Castlereagh which was a second faster than those dumb road testers, then i modified the engine and fitted a 4spd and did wheel spinning 14.7s .I remember calculating 220hp using the weight shifted hp formula which would be pretty close to rwhp.

Those were the days when a street meet was racing on a Sunday night not far from my place .

Remember though Mick the Press tests for a 307 GTS around October 1968 were for a fully loaded car (air and steer) and from memory a 2.78 rear axle (will check). And GMH purposely didn't have a 307 manual at the Surfers Paradise release, as that car would have showed what they were trying to hide a bit (the true potential of the GTS327). All Press 1/4 mile tests of the day were done with two people, and they throttle lifted at each gear change (on a manual). Your 14.7 from a modded 307 manual with 3.36 putting out approx. 220rwhp is a very good indication of the true 1/4 mile capability of a HT-HG GTS350 manual. The later HG version with the bigger port heads was good for about 207rwhp, had a 3.08 rear axle, weighs about the same and AMC Magazine pulled a 14.78 out of it with two people, 26 Gallons of fuel in the tank and throttle lifting at shifts. So pretty much shows a direct comparison between the cars.

And the final picture to this post, the finished engine in the vehicle, I know it's a 3.3 , however I have keep it looking like the red engine, as mentioned the dyno figures were done with the air cleaner on.

Off the shelf GPI racing alloy, designed for Holden six, just have to cut the side flanges to mount, it has around double the number of tubes,

I used a varijet base, and cut it out and welded in a new base with a weber bolt pattern that I made from mild steel sheet
