This Thread is for anything Titanium,

I am wondering if we can use the exhaust valve here:-

man-11854-8_w_ml.jpg

https://www.summitra...ts/man-11435t-1

as the inlet valve in the red six head?

Is said that Stainless Valves are only good to 8000rpm, so border line limit.

Weight factor of Titanium Valves gives an extra 400rpm over stainless. :)

Of-course we need to match the expensive internal parts,

but these parts can be re-installed to future motors.

Not true. Stainless valves are routinely spun to 15k and more. Lighter valves allow lighter spring pressures.

Ti isn't needed on a red six, the valves aren't very big and they just don't rev that high. Spend your money on the cylinder head where it will do some good.

Fair enough Oldjohnno,

was worth the mention as a lighter valvetrain is good.

So approx $1600 for a set of valves. A bit hexy for a valve set for a red motor. Better to spend the $$$ on porting and getting that optimised first.

Also to add, some of the nascar teams did extensive testing, using titanium on the exhaust side rarely nets and gain.
Ti on the inlet has been proven to make gains.
Lightening anythinh on the intake side of the valvetrain showed gains.
Also require more maintenance than steel and different guide inserts.

Lighter valves allow lighter spring pressures.

Lighter Spring pressures would be good in anycase?

the required spring pressure for 8000rpm is between 550 and 650lbs/sq inch,

 to stop valve bounce.

So would the spring pressure be only 400 say with Titanium?

Only thinking out loud as pressure is wear.

don't fecken bother - there's no sheep stations up for grabs

save your money for the drought that's comming with your engine build.

you will need it if you intend to spin the engine to 8K all day long and hope to hold it together. up and down that rev range for ages

raced all weekend and didn't rev it over 7 K.

http://racing.natsof....87T/Result?39

reliability is what you need to complete the last race of the meeting after over 85 laps at full noise over three (3) days

but im no expert in engine building.

I would not go roller unless you were intending to enter NC - the cost is not worth the effort VS hp.

flat tappet cam is  still very handy with good suspension and tyres.

a pennies worth of advice or is that threepence - i'm not sure what is cheaper - I think it's a threepance

we all think that we need to build an engine to spin and the small details are important, but lets not throw the baby out with the bath water.

roller cam will last a lot longer and be able to be used over again with no issues.

sorry - i have nothing in my engine that is titanium - can the webmaster move this to another area. I blurted this information out before reading the heading - it's the internet !!!

Titanium Valves are good for 44mm diametre and over valves and revs over 6000rpm.

Attached File  CB Performance.jpg   99.35K   0 downloads

http://www.cbperform...duct-p/1637.htm

Titanium 44mm intake and 38mm exhaust would be the go for the Red Head.

On a side note,

44mm Motor bike Valves come with a 7mm stem at 53 grams each.

Titanium wears, not as simple as fit a set, she'll be right,
Requires lash caps on the top of the valve, different guides and inserts.
I have seen nascar engines, they tend to inly use titanium on the intake side as this is were ho gains are.
Titanuim exhaust valves can require regular maintenance.
I would search other areas for gains before going down that path.

I think it's already been mentioned, but I think you could spend your money in other areas instead of on Titanium valves. I'm not using Ti valves & still running to 7200 rpm's.
