TORANA is just a name.
The new car may as well be called an ASTRA.
If they don't reintroduce the name, The Legend will grow.
If the introduce the Torana, and it doesn't look retro like the new Mini or VW Beetle, it will only tarnish the name.
That's just my opiion anyway.
John.

Yeah, I agree.... design it retro like the new Camaro, Mustang, Challenger and you're on a winner.
At least if they carry over the guards from the VE there'll be no need for bolt ons!

Hmmm..... black bonnets, window blackouts, 21st century bobtails.....I'd like to see that!

god help us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
how much will torana parts cost when they bring that as a marketing tool out......as if theres not enough yuppies writing them off at racetracks everywhere now....just wait till theres a new torana and they all want to be cool in their old skool versions
i bet it wont even be an all new model like toranas were originally...theyll prolly be based on something povo like monaros have ALWAYS been...just a 2door kingswood/commodore that cost heaps more

to use the Torana name, they would have to do a retro version.... Sumthing like the Camaro, Mini, Mustang or Beatle... Other wise it will not be worthy of the Torana name

Good idea tho to start building a midsize car... it may look good, but wont deserve the name regardless!

Wasn't the orginal Torana (HB) simply a rebadged Vaxhaul Viva?

I think we have to accept the Torana will probably not be retro if they do it guys. All i hope is that they make it rear wheel drive if they do, and that they don't make it in Korea, but considering new small cars today the chances of it being a front wheel drive Koren car are high.

Has everyone noticed that the Holden Viva is being sold? Is this a 'hint' that the Torana will be released and it will replaced the Viva just like in the late 60s?

hands up who considers the HB to be a real torana.........
in my opinion the true spirit of the torana name was born with the release of the LC........an aussie car built to take on the heavily american based fords in the greatest race on the planet...and done so successfully using aussie knowhow and a lot of cunning

At the risk of starting a pointless arguement, Whether or not you consider the HB a 'real' Torana doesn't mean it isn't a Torana. And from what i understand the LC/J model was still built on a modified HB floor pan.

The LH was the first all Aussie car if you want to look at it that way.

But i can understand you opinion that the LC was the first 'real' Torana, if you want to look at it from a race point of view...

If anyone wants to see the TT36, its apparently on display in the foyer at Holden HQ in Salmon St Port Melbourne along with a few other concept cars like the Monaro convertable, Utester, Sandman and Efijy.

DanWA, your favourite LH's probably wouldnt have been built if the LC/LJ's werent successful...

Youve found yourself a pretty shallow opinion there...

^ could have fooled me! Hope if the TT36 goes into production it doesn't wear the torana badge... Nice enough car but doesn't share a lot in common with the old ones. My 2c

Where did you get the sales figures from?

According to my 50 years of Holden book, they made more LJs than anything else, followed by more LCs.

Total made:

HB(I): 16,318
HB (II): 20,243
LC: 74,627
LJ: 81,813
TA: 11,304
LH: 70, 184
LX: 65,977
UC: 53,008

If you like LX thats fine, but you can't really go and say the LJ wasn't a success if they made more of them than any other. And from memory untill a few years ago 1972 (HQ/LJ) was the most successful sales year for Holden.
