This is too dear, but this sort of stuff pops up from time to time. These make a decent engine if you can run a 327. As a factory L76 engine with the lumpy top pistons, 2.02/1.6 fuelies, solid 30-30 Duntov cam, alloy intake, baby Holley and Ramshorns these easily make 350hp. Using extractors, modern heads and modern cam they’ll go well over 400hp

If a Trimatic fits a Powerglide will. But I’d use a TH350, pretty close to the same size.

no they don’t,  they need trimming and tunnel need moving with a big hammer

Not relatively unwanted stuff like 327SJ or 283 or non-Holden 307 or other oddball stuff like 305. That link I put up was just a block and crank with some used pistons and rods, the heads are mismatching small port scrap and so is the intake. Yes you’ll pay over $1000 for a large journal long motor to suit rebuild, but not for the stuff I mentioned.

3spd is always better in low powered car especially something low weight will feel more fun...2spd glide feels lazy with tall gears.

Loved the trimatic behind 355 4500 stall 4.56 gear setup in vh sle.

Obviously th350 can be built stronger & torrie will rip nicely with tamer stally & gears.

*last time asked Dr Terry said should be copies on ebay.

What is this book by Dr Terry called ?

I take it a turbo 400 is bigger than a  th350, so harder to install.

60 years of Holden.

TH400 is massive compared to TH350 and Trimatic.

I’m surprised a Powerglide fouls an LC tunnel. Is it the bellhousing? They are no larger than a Trimatic in the body. I would have thought that if an Aussie 3/4speed and Trimatic fits that a ‘glide would too.

The 60 years of Holden book is not available anywhere.

Can someone please get the info from the page with the LC - LJ weights on it.

I’ll send you the source info, so it is indisputable. Straight from GMH Engineering. Just need an email address.

Here is complete running 305 in a HJ for under $1200. Has Holley and HEI ignition plus extractors which you’d probably sell for $100.

Townsville is too far me to drive, plus my small sedan won't take it anyway.

Keep looking, as I said the 305/307/283 etc engines are unloved so are cheap. That brand new 262 GenII link I posted is cheap too, you’d never buy and rebuild one for that. Have a read on Super Chevy what they do with the smaller engines. In this article they take an old 1968 307, still with factory components, same engine that was in a HK and HT. It pulled 230hp with an old alloy intake and Quadrajet plus a replacement camshaft. They got it to 315hp from a 40 year old engine. Lots of other articles on 305 etc too.

This one does a 283 (just ignore the blown 302 stuff).

They put a 327 crank in it which makes it a 307 (+60 makes it 316). Using old power pack heads (which people throw away) and old school intake setup they got nearly 340hp.

None of this is relevant if you can go bigger, but if you are stuck with a baby SBC it isn’t the end of the world.

http://www.superchev...n-and-tri-power

I bought a good useable 283 with 462 fuelies, Weiand intake and Quadrajet a few months back for $400. I’m going to use it in my HK to set it all up and Engineer it. There are plenty around like it.

Guess it's bit different if you are not the Sender, but I had a block shipped Newcastle to Melbourne and return last year, for machine work etc.
Small timber pallet, couple of of ratchet straps, shrink wrap over that..
All good, no dramas.
Just need s fork at each end to load/ unload.

There seems to be a shortage of small block chevs, well under 350 cubes at least.

Has me thinking of all other sorts of engines 308-202-186, at least with a 6 no engineering needed.

That will be a bit harder as they are all getting on. And will cost a fair bit more. This is still on Gumtree:
https://www.gumtree....opytopasteboard

Put up a wanted ad, for a 262/267/283/302/305/307 in running condition.

Just make sure you avoid from memory pre 1959 as they don’t have side mounts.

That new L99 is still on EBay:
