Shame you can’t run a 350. This would be worth buying for the engine, box and diff centre.

Here is a running 305 in a Chevy wagon for $3000. Should have a TH700R4 or maybe a 200R4. Not sure what the rest is worth though.

Seems a bit cheap given the work done. Or it was done a long time ago and needs a redo?

I reckon you are going to have to buy an engine and rebuild it. Unless you are going to a late model injected Holden 5litre they are rarely around for sale in good running condition.

Here is a complete 283 in pieces. Same seller has a cheap 3.3 too. Hard to see in the photos but the head cast mark could be a triangle with point up, which are powerpack heads. Same as fuelies but with a 1.72” intake valve. If it’s a 1963 or later block you can make a 307 or 327 out of it easily.

Or for something totally left field.....

https://www.gumtree....opytopasteboard

Fits exactly where a SBC fits. Cheap. 262ci. Uses all 350 SBC parts.

Still good deals out there just have to be quick.

Not interested in rebuilding, I cant do the work myself & have no good contacts in the industry.

You could just fit a 253?
Have you contacted an engineer yet? You may need to jump some hoops with the modified K-frame anyway.....maybe a 350 isn’t out of the question?

I contacted 3 engineers one would allow a 5 litre, the other 4.2 & the third did not want to know about it.

I just have to find the right bloke, a 350 would be nice good power so cheap & plentiful.

Another 283 rebuilder. Not quite cheap enough though but they are out there. Looks like it has HQ engine mount adapters. Probably the right sump too. It may only need rings and bearings, or just bearings and a head service.

I have seriously thought about it, Can any 202 efi owners give me the pros & cons.

What sort of quarter mile times could you achieve.

They are very cheap to buy complete.

A standard ones power output was slightly more than a single exhaust 4.2L 4BBL engine. Would certainly make your gearbox and diff choices cheaper.

This is what I'd do. The link to oldholden.com doesn't work anymore but all the basics are there.

A lot of parts chasing for right parts to get it to fit & work nicely...they were decent in performance but nothing compares to v8 rumble in lil torry.

Dude on here years ago was running 14's n/a in 4 red 4 door lc.

I had triple webbers, solid cam,red 202,m20,3.9 bango best it got was 13.1..bit of a bushpig to drive, tonne of fun would be horrible nowadays with Sydney traffic & 50km/h speed zones....went efi 304/5spd getrag/3.89 b/w reasonably quick & able to drive anywhere & sounded good.

I'd do another v8 conversion over 6cyl given the choice but v8/auto cruiser.

Well it's only going to get driven once a month or so, Maybe I am over thinking it.

Maybe a lumpy six will do the trick.

Here is a running 283 in NSW. Looks like it was in a HK-HG. Looks like it’s a 4BBL and has power pack heads. I doubt it’ll sell quick at $2000 so you might get a deal. I’d say he’s pulling the sump off as a HK-HG SBC sump and pickup is worth $500-700 alone. If you bought it you’d just get him to fit a sump to suit Torana. The HK-HG exhaust manifolds might fit too.
