Has anyone modified a 3 speed shifter (Torana) to suit a turbo 700?

Only done vh/vk commodores...rod is on passenger side.Drill opening on tbar shifter larger for 4l60/th700 adjuster piece to fit trimatic tbar.
Won't go into 1st gear but doesn't matter when get all other positions required.
Most torries have selector rod on driver's side iirc so moght be thread on forum somewhere to mod tbar shifter to suit.

Torana is as easy as W size Holden. Just get a TH400 shifter out of a HQ-HZ. Get the whole rod and trunnions too. Will operate the box but as above won't see all gears. You might be able to frig around with the selector arm length so you can get 1st but still won't see all gears indicated. You can pull a Trimatic one apart and swap it over to make it the same as a TH400 one as well.
You can also use a UC T-bar and cut off the mounts at the top so it fits into a Torana console.
If it is a 4L60 (called TH700 prior to about 1989) you can buy a kit to operate the converter. If it is a 4L60E you'll need a transmission ECU for the whole thing. Or if you are running an injected engine just run the correct ECU to control the transmission.

Yes, earlier Trimatic Shifter, that has the bolt in gate.
Knocked out the roll pin and reassembled to change it to the correct side shift. Made up another arm for the box to get the travel correct for the extremes of the box travel and the shifter travel. Cut out a new shifter gate blank, marked it out with respect to the detent positions in the box, cut new detent positions on the gate blank in the same fashion as the original gate, changed gate style slightly to include a neutral lockout so it couldn't be easily knocked through neutral or reverse if someone is a lil heavy handed on the manual shifting, bolt it all together and try it out, sweet as!
Yes more effort that most would go to, but the end result was a shifter that looks original but suits the later 4L60E
Gate was cut out in the mill using a rotary table, but you could do it by hand if that's all you had.
