Have you all heard the latest on Mr Mad?
He ran a 6.81 @ 210mph at compac attack which makes it the fastest road registered car in australia!
How's that for a fast Torrey...It is a twin turbo SBC and has a 1/2 chassis, it was featured in street machine, this a one serious bit of gear. I'm pretty sure they got the engine from the states but the con & vic from C & V Perfomance may have tweaked it slightly, the car runs a air-shifted lenco(3speed I think).
I can't wait to see it out again...what a car!

gotta agree with the road registered bullshit comment. I find it hard to beleive that car has ever seen road duties , but it is a awesome drag car, pushing technology to the limits. Maybe oneday we are going to see air conditioning in cars cooling intake air instead of dry ice intercoolers?Road Registered? Bullshit.

Been and done, Im pretty sure that the JUDGE Todds GIACOTALO had refridgerated intercoolers on it.. I could be wrong tho..Maybe oneday we are going to see air conditioning in cars cooling intake air instead of dry ice intercoolers?

But bloody hell that is a quick vehicle. If might be road registered, but I doubt it's hit the streets for five years

could be a small block Heath, you can now get a strocker kit to take a small block out to 454ci, based on a 400 small block. It's not a Smallblock either, 440ci = TT BBC

It is not JOEBLO re-incarnated, Joe Cutelli purchased that car back from Chris over here in WA, and I believe it is/has raced again with a blower, not turbos. For a short while the car did have a TT setup from Eddie Tassone, but I don't believe it ever got down the track.
It is road registered... meaning he pays the rego. No one said it was street driven or legal.
It has XU-1 stickers on it because it is reportedly a genuine XU-1
It is a small block, I believe an all alloy SB2 style, with larger bores, raised cam tunnel and extra clearances.
While I don't think you'll ever see A/C cooled intercoolers (you'd be using more energy than you'd gain) the principle is being used in the form of NX's N-tercooler and Cyrotec's CO2 spray setups. For drag racing (short term use) water to air intercoolers where the coolant/water passes through dry ice or similar bath can exceed 100% efficiency. I've seen a car here in WA with this setup, and CO2 inlet sprayers recording intake temps of 0 degrees or below.

Why would you make a drag car out of a genuine XU-1?
THIS IS A BLOODY OUTRAGE!
It'd be just as easy to make an LJ "S" into a drag car as it would be to make one out of an XU-1, and then you wouldnt be wrecking a collectable.

Also, "This is a bloody outrage" is a quote from Stewie, from "The Family Guy"
i add:
I agree, any car that can pull 6.8sec quarters is a bloody good thing. But i just think it couldve/shouldve been done with an "S" or something 'below' an XU-1

I'm so glad that my LX is a pov pack so I don't have to be constantly insulted by the purists.
I reckon theres way more fully road registered toranas in original/roadworthy condition that see the road as little as these sort of drag cars..
BTW Good on the bastard! My mate filmed the 6.8 second pass and holey crap! I've never seen something launch like that
Anyone know which class he competes in?

the supercharger boys dont want to know about turbos, scared i say.
it takes me back to the days of no dragstrip in sydney and all the pro drag cars would throw on a set of plates and show up at the street meets
rim 010.
i agree with you about the whole cutting an xu1 thing but its just a bit old hat to whinge about modded cars, seems to happen too much.
as for the "family guy" quote,im more of an "american dad" guy myself

it wouldnt be the first time a car magazine has blatantly lied to make its article more appealing (or appauling whichever it may be)
