Currently doing a HQ front disk and caliper conversion and having some problem
with the caliper touching the cross-member on full lock.

Is there a way around this or is this something that comes with the conversion?

Thanks Ray.

I'll assume it's going on a Torry? I'll assume the calipers are at the front of the stub axle?

The first thing is, everybody else seems to have the calipers at the front when doing this conversion. Including GMH when they fitted them to the L34 and A9X. Second question is, what caliper are you using? PBR or Girlock? Cast iron or alloy? Four possible calipers there. Some fit better than others.

Using PBR Cast, Used them at the back to clear the tie rod end, i noticed that the hoppers stoppers set up has the caliper at the back to, just wondering if they have the same problem?

sounds like you have your stub axles on the wrong side of the car. Swap them over so the calipers are on the front, otherwise if left on the rear the pads are dislodged on full lock when the calipers foul.

yes, if you heat/bend the torana arms.

The $297 Harrop arms reduce bump steer. If you don't want your tyres chopped out and want it to have predictable steering during suspension travel, spend the cash.

dattoman will be able to list all the pros and cons for each caliper.

Dont want to heat/bend anything steering, just want to know if im able to fix the problem by griding a caliper.

Thanks Ray.

thanks chopper for the harrop info.

The thread shows in reasonable detail what needs to be ground off the caliper in order for them to fit. Unless I made a link to the wrong thread.

PBR cast iron ones should fit on without mods (forward of the stub)

Try to find some UC Steering arms, they are a different shape and help with the geometry issue. They should also allow more clearance around the tie rod end.

Mick, are the UC ones similiar to the Harrop ones? How much of the bump steer issue is rectified is the real question?. I have about 4 UCs sitting at the wreckers here.

Rory, the UC ones are about half way between the LH/X and the Harrop arms, I am going to chase up a set for mine soon, I can live with it how it is, but they are going to make it better for bugger all. I am going to change them around when I do my other front end mods and my rear end mods

GMH DID make special arms for the L34 and A9X. How much bumpsteer do you want in the race car?

Daniel at Harrop actually showed me one of their steering arms next to a UC one. There was a fair bit of difference. CRS used to make a kit to lower the tie rod end, maybe contact them?
