No papers have been signed yet but hands have been shook

Deals have been struck and promises have been made

If all goes to plan I should have an operation in place by end of January

Well done Datto.

Good luck with it. I'm still good for the steak though.

Sorry its been awhile since i posted here guys, i do have other things in my life besides the internet. If people are going to crack the s**ts cause i cant hold there hand with something, whatever.

Rory you seem very annoyed with me for not putting up the shape of the bracket we made for my brakes. Send me your email address and i'll scan it as soon as i can. I'm not sure how useful it will be to you because it does not have the diamensions on it) I dont know if you have read my other thread on what i did, but i thought there was enough pictures and info for everybody to SEE and READ what i did. If not, i'll try answer any questions from anybody asap. The calipers were off a 240 (which i stated. i think it was a 1983 or 1993 year, i cant remember exactly. I basically went to wreckers and LOOKED for a volvo with 4spots, and VENTED disks, lots did not have the vented disks, but still had the 4 spot caliper). Also, i have an LH, i dont know what the LJ stub axels look like, so again, i dont know if my setup will help you. I wrote down everything i used and what i did in my thread. The pictures should help more than what i wrote.
BTW I cut the disk off the torana hub and used that because it seems pretty hard to actually FIND an LH-LX with drum brakes on the front. The pictures that 82911 should help you more than anything i wrote/showed. Look here for more of what he did http://www.gmh-toran...?showtopic=1500
If LJ-LC front disk brakes are the 1 peice disk and hub, then maybe you could use the idea of cutting the disk off, and making a hub from that. (Instead of finding drum brake hubs/stubs.) BTW there is a wreckers next to Kilsyth Bargain Center on canterbury rd that has an LJ-LC with drum brakes on the front, for any1 interested. Rory, is the car your hoping to do a brake upgrade, a quick street car, or racing car?

Dattoman, for a STREET car, is a volvo 4-spot, vented disk conversion that doesnt muck around with track/camber etc, not a worthy upgrade over the standard brakes if it can be done for less than $300?? Ive only ever heard you bag out volvo brakes, when people seem to have used them with success in group NC cars, and i have not had i single problem with conversion yet. Who cares if who drives volvos to lawn bowls, and i think most people can deal with the calipers being a bit heavier than normal. You seem to suggest setups or calipers that would cost an arm and a leg (i actually looked for a set of these Wilwood Supalite 4 spots, $800 2nd hand??? Thats over 3 times what it cost me to do my whole conversion!!) But if rory is building an all out race car, then fair enough suggesting high end/expensive calipers, and about the volvos being heavy cast iron.
Back to the main question: If people cant afford setups such as the $1200 hoppers kits, is something like what i have done (for less than $300), not a worthy upgrade for a street car? Even though HQ conversions prob arent that hard, they still have the bumpsteer/camber issues, none of those problems with what i did.

No need to get all emotional about it

Any upgrade correctly performed is an improvement over standard brakes

Nc cars use the Volvo gear because its better than std brakes and they run to very strict period rules so they can't use anything better.
The faster front running cars use pads worth much more than your conversion cost to make the package work

Your package would cost a normal person alot more to produce themselves..... most would recon the calipers for safety sake. The calipers may cost more money. They may fit new pads. Hose and pipe prices vary.
So your setup for the price you paid is a good deal. I doubt many could duplicate it.
It works for you...... but might not for others. Its called personal choice.
My opinion is my own based on 10+ years in the brake industry and I will stick to it as far as Volvo calipers are concerned.

Wilwood Superlites retail for $760 pair. I sold a brand new pair to a forum member last week.

Most people don't have the time to create such a conversion themselves nor do they have the equiptment
Hence an off the shelf conversion works for these people
Hoppers aren't the only ones that do it either
There are others that are identical and cheaper ( I'll tell you how much cheaper in Janaury when the shop opens)

To my knowledge Rory is building an LH to do track and street/targa work. I doubt the Volvo brakes would be adequate for his needs hence my suggestions for bigger better things. Notice I didn't suggest a 2 piston sliding caliper design for him ?
For a street car...... each to their own.

"Dont get me wrong..I appreciate the info here so far but we are not working together"

On the first page..
Not annoyed at you NV, more speaking my mind on info as being done in tech articles. The Skyline diff was a good example..we all do these things then leave it until someone asks a question..
I would love more tech articles to be stickied to help everyone. I understand all you have wriiten and what was done..my point was even if you traced a bracket on a piece of paper and faxed it that takes about 3 days of head scratching out of the game..if you understand where I am coming from.
My car is for Sprints and hillclimbs by the way..not into door rubbing with others..MRNOS might be later though. He has Willwoods under his bed ready to go on.

I just scored a complete SLR5000 front end off Tony so I can sit it on the bench and do the front end complete out of the car then swap it later. This will be heaps easier than climbing around under it.
