Hi everybody,

I'm about to start a conversion by pulling out my 6 in my LX. I am going to stick
a SB 383 in and a TH400. The problem I have is I don't know if the TH400 will
fit in without having to modify or even cut out the tunnel and fabricate a new one.
I understand that I will have to make a trans cross member coz they are about 2"
lower than a Traumatic( Is this true? ). I dont want to use a TH350 coz it might not handle the hp.

Any help will be great thanx.

The TH400 fits into stock tunnel, CRS can supply you with a new xmember to suit.

Turbo 400 fits in the Torana tunnel. No mods or cutting needed. Dont expect to be able to get your hands in there to work on any thing between tunnel and trans thou. Yes you do need a different cross member thou. All thou I have seen the origonal one used turned upside down.

T350 would happily handle the HP and use less to get it to the ground
Thats what I'm using with my 383 anyway

can anyone else confirm the "turning the crossmemer upside down" theory.

I might give it a go in the next few weeks :D

Sorry I can't remember where and on whos car I saw it. It may have been out at the drags not long after I put the new Turbo 350 in mine as I clearly remember it as being some thing I didn't know could be done.

That would be great if you wanted the gearbox to drag along the ground behind you.....

It could however be possible to get it to work if you fitted it back to front.

The turbo 400 needs to sit lower to clear the transmission tunnel.
Problems that can occur are the hand brake cable rubs on the tailshaft.
The motor leans back, reqiring a small starter motor to clean the chassis.
Fitting a holden x member back to front, wont do anything.

If it is the gbox crossmember you are reffering to, then yes turn it upside for a th350 install. It does fit.
As for a th400 can't help sorry.

I installed a 350 with th350 box and did not require any new parts or body mods.
