in the early eighties there was a car yard in tempe called the sydney carriage co. that only sold a9x's. It's where tempe tyres is now. anybody have pics of this yard

Don't know of that one, I didn't drive around that area back then but in the mid to late 90's further down Princes Hwy on the corner of Gertrude St there's a car yard which was always stocked with the latest Commodores, often had a few Walkinshaws and I recall seeing a Corvette or two there as well.

My L34 has a old Barry Thompson sticker on the back window. I got the car from a Toyota dealer in 1988. My wife wanted a 4 door car for carting the kids around, our Mini was too small. After she backed into a pole she won't drive it now. It was an old Touring Car but I don' have the log book. It was built on the 18th July 1974 and sold through Motors P/L Tasmania and deliverd to Melbourne for race prep. In 1976 it was sold of and went to the mainland. It has lots of old paint under the Glacier White looks like Andronicus Coffee brown and some old red.. It was upgraded to A9X specs at some stage as it has a Steel case Super T10 and A9x Diff with floor pach. It must have been raced as an A9X for a wile. Anyone remember this L34. See Photos

Yep Parkside Autos 4-8 Princes Hwy Arncliffe. I worked there for over 10 years before doing what I do now. I use to live in the house next door to the yard in Gertrude Street. We sold mainly Brock and HSV cars but we would also buy Corvettes and Ford's.I use to run the workshop doing all the body and paint work, electrical and mechanical. I ran the workshop by myself and Mark (the owner) would do the sales. The property is still there but the caryard is gone. Mark still owns the place but it is a long term carpark now. I still speak to him about twice a week and we also talk about the old days when Parkside was in it's prime. When I first started there in 1988 we use to buy V8 VK commodore mainly ex chasers and put wheels and body kits on them. The Sydney Carriage Company was just up the road where Tempe tyres is now. I the days before Parkside I use to hang over the fence all the time at the sydney Carriage Company especially on the nights we would hang out at Cobb & Co now Harry's Cafe De Wheels. There is still a 4 post car hoist at the yard which Mark has given me so I better get down there and pick it up as the place is being demolished in August 2013. If anyone use to hang over the fence at Parkside late at night and see the workshop lights on then that would have been me working on a couple of my projects. While working at Parkside I must have resprayed about 20 cars. I did 5 Walkinshaws because sometimes he would buy a car that been a bit neglected and they need a full coat of paint. I did a few VC Brocks including two black one's and few silver and few white SS Brocks and by memory a couple of VK Group A's and Group 3's. Boy those were the days.

when the yards buy the ex cop cars for customising and then sale..always wonder how they make a buck..as at the auctions the cop cars never seem cheap?

As mentioned earlier...here is pic of "1975 Actual Bathurst winner" ( as noted on screen ) for sale at BTPC in the 80s.
Anyone know where it is now??

found a couple of pics. This car is certainly the same car as in the following two pics, which is not the 75 winner, it's the Patterson L34 later upgraded to A9X and raced as the Cooke car in 78 and 79. The drop tank is a dead giveaway.

good one RED...I'll take your word for the fact its the same car. You seem to be all  over the 'big Toranas' as far as history goes.

Thanks for the follow up.

As a matter of interest, I came a cross an old unused BTPC sticker in my clean up the other day.....may be of interest to someone?

Hi Col, Can you tell me if this L34 is black or a dark brown. It is a bit hard to tell by looking at the photo as shown. Maybe if it is brown it may be an ex Bob Forbes Andronicus Coffee car. He had two cars painted in Andronicus livery a race car and a test/spare. Dunno.. One of those L34 was driven by several drivers in Tasmania when it belonged to B & D Autos

Ok...I have just come across some old pics and business cards from Barry Thomson Performance cars.
Will post them once I figure out how ( have seen the link, just havent had time to digest it )
The Sales guy there was Chis Miller, was there for years....was always up for a Torana chat...maybe he would remeber your car IF you could find him??...reckon he would have to be late 50's by now?

I remember Chris, myself and a mate were always around his yard there in the early 80's the one a little west up Parramatta Road from Suttons, I was looking for an LX5000 at the time, and he tried to talk me into buying a white A9X 4 door he had there, I remember it was $11,000 this would have been in early 1983, I knocked it back as $9,000 was my absolute limit, I came close to buying a nice Mandarin Red LX5000 from him, but missed out, a mate of mine bought a Chrome Yellow L34 from him around the same time, sadly this car was stolen from his driveway a couple of years later and never seen again

I remember he moved into a yard almost opposite on Parramatta Road from memory, I don't recall what year it closed down though

Actually I purchased 2 cars from Craig Hudson  a younger guy that worked alongside Chris Miller & sold cars too quite a few fellas I knew around that time!... Craig started as a Detailer & was both a Detailer & a very good one & a Sales guy. I remember he knew a lot about all the Aussie Muscle Line. & oh Man could he drive !...He was a very Polite  Helpful young guy & I would pick his brains about the Torana,s . I recall Chatting with Him at Parramatta Speedway in the 80,s ..I may have a Business card of his in my old photo albums
