Hi Guys, Among the interesting bits and pieces I've accumulated I've got a Front Bumper Reinforcement that bolts to the bar brackets and the person I got it off tells me its meant to help in the event of a front end impact......I've owned 4 LC's over the last 10-12years and this is the first I've come across, has anyone else seen one and can they tell me if it is a factory option or dealer accessory or just something a fastidious owner has crafted up for the car?

Here's a couple of pics....

I've never sen one, and I've seen a fair few LC/LJs, so I'd reckon it's probably non factory.

Good idea though!

It looks like it would actually make a head on worse...

It would stop the car more quickly, so the occupants would hit whatever they are going to hit at a higher speed... ie: Steering Wheel, Dash, seat in front. A standard bumper would absorb a bit of impact.

May be a bit of speedway equiptment

Saves changing the front bumper all the time

Cheers

^Or that. We built bumpers for our HK out of some tubing that was originally around the local Trotting Track... That worked good.

As old as it looks it's really well made hey........ the curve matches the front bar perfectly and its solid steel, It would have taken a talented fabricator to achieve this result of not only getting the width right to bolt in behind the bumper but also to follow the bar's shape as well given that its solid steel it wouldn't have been too easy to manipulate!!

I didn't think of speedway but its too well made given that a lot of speedway users are generally "close enough is good enough" for the barging racing they do! and it came off the LC I've got here that definately wasn't a speedway car.

Wouldn't surprise me if the car it's from's done some time on a racetrack, though. Not a bad idea. Wish I'd had one when I bent my right bumper support and tow hook at Calder a couple of weeks ago.

Well the suspension currently in the car is definately leaning towards a roundy roundy style of racing rather than basic street and definately not drag racing. I should climb under it and take a couple of pics

That does probably make sense.....I've got the books here for the car and it was sold from a dealer on the Gold Coast which may have been considered a country area in 1971?....hehehe
