What did Chromies come off? Were they an option for base model cars or off higher spec car?
A guy tried to tell me they were LJ XU1 wheels but I disagreed.

^^ i agree, the GTR-X which is in the background on the latest Holden ad has a set on it, when i had my first LJ in the eighties you could buy 13x6" wheels from ROH in either chrome or black.

What a co-incidence. Someone has told me exactly the same thing about a set that they have, and I just remembered who it was. Can anyone confirm this?A guy tried to tell me they were LJ XU1 wheels but I disagreed.
I thought LC GTRs had fully chromed wheels, and some XU-1s came out with black and a chrome lip on them. I'm interested to find out what the real deal is, so I can tell Stew what he's actually got.

LC GTR's had black rims a holden centre cap, chrome nuts and a chrome dress rim.

i beleive they were all black with the chrome dress ring on the lc gtr's and xu-1's. the lj gtr's had the same and the xu-1's had an option of sprinties yes???
i can't remember holden ever letting out chromie rims....same as apparently they n ever made the air splitters chrome, they were flat black and the dealers got them chromed....interesting.

Chrome steel wheels were a layover from the US hotrod days. You bought them off tyre places like Beuarepaires or where ever for you EH or HR. They were never factory, you took your wheels to a chromer to have done.

here's some pics to help sort out the wheels fitted to LC & LJ GTR's.
The first pic is of an LC GTR wheel, it has a black 13x5.5" nibbed rim with what looks like silver overspray on it, a chrome trim ring, red insert in the centre cap, and "acorn" type nuts. When i first saw this rim i thought some one had poorly sprayed them on my old 5/70 GTR, a member in the club who has owned his GTR since new confirmed this is correct.

The next pic is of an LJ GTR wheel, it has a silver flash 13x5.5" nibbed rim with a black centre section, chrome trim ring, black insert in the centre cap, and chrome/ black wheel nuts. The example is from my 6/72 GTR, although there is some evidence that early cars used LC type nuts.

I hope this helps in identifing GTR wheels, if some one has pics/ info on the variants of XU1 wheels please post them.
