Can anybody tell me with technologhy today is it at all possible to track down a car if you have its original engine ?? I understand that alot of cars are written off etc over the years but is there anyway to find out if a certain car is circulating on the raod somewhere with a differnt engine in it?

i don't think you could do that legally you would have to know the chassis/VIN number and then be able to check each state's registration details - assuming it is still registered. If you have the original rego number and it is still on the car you might get lucky.
