Just wondering if somebody could clairfy for me a questions regarding the bonnet release.

From what I believe the LC's had a bonnet release which was external and was a lever that protruded through the grille in which you flicked to the side for the bonnet to release. Is this correct ???

Then in the LJ holden brought out the cable release which was under the dash? Is this correct ???

Does anybody know if this cable release was an optional extra for LJ's only or was it a standard ? if so when did it come in ??

So i guess the real question is " Does the LC & LJ have different bonnet locking mechinisms ????

any help would be appreciated!

cheers

Luke

I believe the internal release was an option on both.

so does that mean there are 2 different types of bonnet releases then ???

1. External release

2. Internal release

Can anybody else confirm that both were available for LC & LJ ??

Both my 73 LJs have external bonnet release. I have seen internal release on LCs before so I would say the external release was standard, and the internal was an option through both LC and LJs.

Hi

I understand that they were optional on the LC and LJ and although I haven't been able to confirm it - I have been told that the "hood lock" was a standard part of the XU1 option.

The NASCO parts manual call them "hood locks" the accessories catalogue calls them "bonnet locks" - curious??

I have only seen the release knob mounted on the driver's kick panel but the LJ accessories catalogue shows a close up of an elongated button mounted under (presumably) the lower dash panel. Anyone seen this?

i think even in the LJ xu-1s it was only optional (not standard)
another option was the anti tamper (or whatever they called it) box.
a mates Lj xu-1 only has the external latch which he spews about.

My 70 LC had an External one where the grill is......

I installed a LJ Bonnet latch that goes inside the vehicle in my LC.....i looked at both and they were the same......everything else is the same but mine did have a anti tamper box so i unscrewed the bolts and threw that away in my backyard as i wouldve had to cut another piece of metal to hold it into place......easy to install too.....i actually surprised myself as it took 20 mins and thats it............

i was lucky tho as i parked at the beach next to LJ Torana and they straight away went up to my car and tried to open my bonnet and i walked up to them and they just simply said oh sorry i thought this was mine.....mine was all smick and theirs had rotten paint and stokies on

Back in the 70's in Vic insurance companies gave a discount on insurance if bonnet locks were fitted.

LC LJ's came standard with external locks as did othr makes. Cortina?

Fitting of the internal cable and cutting off the external lever gave the required internal lock accepted by the insurance companies.

Hi

This pic shows the usual place for mounting the control button. Be sure to allow a little space to partially swing down the fuse box - but not so low that it looks stupid or gets in the way of your feet.

Hi Smiley

I am not sure which pic to are referring to - but the present spark advance setup is as per the manual ie.via the thin pipe to the front carb. When I first got the car, the vacuum advance was absent and the area blanked off.

Hi Strat, that was 16 years ago mate and I don't recall what they were. Are you wanting the placement of the bracket or the emblem on the cable button?

Cheers
